    hi new here....

If it's packaged well, (I'm sure it will be), there will be minimal die off. You'll still have a small cycle. You're probably not going to be able to catch most of the hitch hikers, or they'll be attached to the rock. Just put it in the tank with your sand and water and run the filter/skimmer...

Coralife Aqualight Pro w/HQI metal halide

I think that 2 250w HQI lamps plus the two 96w actinic bulbs is gonna be a bit much over a 13" tank. Plus any all-in-one light like this isn't easy to re-wire a new ballast to. It's not the same as wiring up retrofits. If you're gonna buy one of these lights, (and I think they're neat...

    Dec. Contest Winner - Incysor

Thanks guys. I can't wait for the next one. I was going to take some pics for the pic of the week last night, got my new purchases acclimated, picked up and rearranged some frags, and fed the tank. I went and got the camera, and both sets of batteries were dead. Figures. B

    hi new here....

Check out the link here. Part way down is a pic with the light over the AC500. You can use the little clip on 7w, ones, (cheaper), or the 18w ones. Either should be plenty of light. My wife runs her fuge light opposite of her tank lights. When the tank lights are on the fuge light is off...

Bigals doesn't sell them. I got Shannnen's off of ebay. Actually the one I got her was a coralife one that is the same as the picolo. Here's one on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW Cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

    Updated Pics - Perfecting Macro...

Don't feel too bad Mike. I've got a pretty long "I shoulda listened to *" list. If you can bring yourself to donate the live specimen I think it'll probably help a bit more than the dead one. Pay very close attention to the details on how to donate either type specimen. There have been...

    Salifert results...

I know people that never liked looking through telescopes, microscopes, rifle scopes, etc.... If you're one of these people then a refractometer probably isn't for you, and I'd go with the pinpoint meter. I don't mind looking through scopes and the refractometers are cheaper, and less apt to...

Anyone ever heard of black sun polyps?

Yep. There were several places you could get them in town recently. I actually bought a piece at one point from Planet Fish because they said that the polyps were green when they extended. When they did extend in my tank they were a slightly less back than the skeleton. I took them back and...

What cleanup crew for 20gal with 30gal sump?

I personally like the mini blue legged guys, and they tend to be cheaper. B

    hi new here....

You'll probably want to skip the AC500 as a refugium if you're going with the prism skimmer. If you did both, you' have to setup the skimmer on one side of the tank because the AC500 takes up most of the back. Yes everything was taken out of the AC500 in order to use it as a fuge. She's got a...

Pic of the week --- Feeding time.

Usually feeding time makes shots difficult. There's extra stuff floating in the water and the fish are zipping around. But sometimes you get lucky. Let's see some pics of feeding time. Fish, inverts, corals, whatever. Try to keep the images to 450 x 600. B They see us coming. YAY...

Pic of the week ---- Crabs

Re: Electric Blue Hermit Crab Nice pic. I love these guys. I'm gonna get another one as soon as I find it locally. B

How hot does your MH tank get in the summer?

Putting the canopy on the large tank raised my temp about 2-3 degrees. That's with the VHO's on, but not the MH. I should be getting the canopy for the 40g in the next few days, and have the new light on it. I'll just have to see what happens. Hopefully with the fans going full time it won't...

    Tiny grey critters

There are thousands of types of flatworms out there. I'd try doing a search on Dr. Ron's forum on RC, see if you get any hits, or pics with your description. B

    hi new here....

The aquaclear 500 is fairly easy to modify to act as a refugium for that size tank. Here's a link to the filter. If for some reason it doesn't work, go to www.bigalsonline.com click on filters and it's the third one down on the right column. http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/pro ...

Yes. Eric is one of the greats. If you've got much of an aquarium library you probably have a book by him. I believe he's a professor at the University of Houston, and he lives someplace in my neigborhood. I'm supposed to get together with him and a couple other guys that live in the area to...

    Purble snail with no shell

Without a pic it'd be very difficult to identify a snail. There's just too many of them. Is it a really bright purple? If so check out pics of nudibranches. B

    hi new here....

Nearly everything sounds good. When you order from liverocks.com, call them and make sure they understand your order is for a nano, so smaller pieces would be better. Some of the pieces I've seen people get from them and from tampabay have been pretty large. I would either put all the fish in...

SPS frags in the Houston area?

Kevin is definitely the person to talk to. He's a great guy, does fantastic custom acrylic work, and usually has quite a few frags available. He lives in Pearland. B

Aquatic Center is going out of business

He posted today saying that if you contact him you're welcome to come pick up LR rubble good for attaching frags too for free. I would expect this might be especially good for nano tanks. B
