My newest babies... freshwater dwarf puffers!

They sound like very interesting little fish, I had no idea that they were as interesting as they sound. I have a friend who loves puffers and I could never figure out why she liked those ugly fish so much but I think I see why now (she likes the larger puffers). Thanks for all of the...

    Cant get calcium up

B-Ionic is a wnderful product IME but it seems to be best for maintaining cal/alk levels. You could try topping off with limewater (kalkwasser) or adding a calcium supplement. Either way don't try to raise it too much at once, raise it gradually over several days or a week. Do you have any...

Tech question about AquaClear HOB filters - flow rates...

The impellars are interchangeable and when they are changed the flowrate changes to the rating of the impellar. The size of the box has nothing to do with the flowrate of the pump, it is the impellar that controls the flowrate. The flowrate is regulated by a combination of several factors...

    HI some question

If he insists on replacing the lion he should upgrade to at least a 29 gallon tank IMO along with the appropriate sized equipment to go with it. JMO, Skip

    HI some question

Whenever you dose a tank with any medications you should remove the carbon and Chemipure if it is being use because they will absorb the medication. If it was me and I was going to dose copper I would never do it in the tank with the LR and LS, they will also absorb copper and leach it back out...

    planning a possible upgrade...

I am not sure that will work either, he will move sand all over the place until he likes the depth where he has decided to make his burrow. You can try it but I don't think it will work unless you luck up and he just goes for the deep end. Good luck, Skip

    Reef Goodies

    planning a possible upgrade...

You will need a deep sandbed for the jawfish and I think I recall that firefish should either be kept singly or as mated pairs. As for the upgrade if you plan on keeping a jawfish then go with the 29 since a deep enough sandbede will take up too much vertical real estate. HTH, Skip

    My first tank

:welcome to nanotank! It looks like your LR fits in there quite nicely. The tank looks like a Nanocube, what are the tank specs and what mods have you made to it. I see a spraybar, have you made any other mods? Keep the pics coming, Skip

    Does anyone regret choosing acrylic?

I have a refugium that is acrylic and didn't realize just how easy it is to scratch until I added this refugium. I personally don't think that an acrylic tank would be my first choice. If you buy a smaller glass tank and the bottom is not tempered it can be drilled. Some LFS drill tanks or...

    First Nano Effort...

That is a pretty nice looking stand. Acrylic is still as easy to scratch as it ever was. That being said there are some inverts and fish you want to stay away from like urchins, I have heard abalone (not that they are nano candidates in the first place), and aggressive fish like triggers can...

    My Nano Tank Died!

Most people upgrade their pump to a MiniJet 606, I used an Aquaglobe AQ300 on mine. It puts out 300 gph and is a low voltage pump so there haven't been any heat issues. They are kinda hard to find right now, it seems that the company is making a few design changes and the new ones will be out...

New to the page. Here's my 4 gallon.

What are you going to put in the refugium? Will it be lit? It does look like it will do a good job and the area you created for the floss looks like it will work out well. Do you plan to run floss all of the time or just as needed? Skip
