A MH would definately be doable but can we say evaporation? I would think that an auto top-off would alomost be mandatory with MH on a tank this small. You would be able to put anything you wanted in there though. I am interested to see where you end up going with this project. Skip

your right skip the halide does increase the rate of evap. Luckily this tank sits right at my work desk so I just lean over a couple times a day and top it off. Once I move it into the living room and put a halide back over it I'll build an ATO for it. Your post actually reminded me I need to get the ball rolling on that :win:

your in line reefman23 but not sadielynn. she denied my fishy names.... ouch!!!

j/k!

Just wait till I get my citron goby... I got a great name lined up!

I finally put my fuge on. I had to wait for the smaller impeller and do some testing but now its up and running on back.

My mechanical filtration device dohicky madulla deally is working like a champ. You can see the filter pad jammed in between the two baffles

I think I added like an extra gallon of water. the thing is like the size of the tank :lol3:

What are you going to put in the refugium? Will it be lit? It does look like it will do a good job and the area you created for the floss looks like it will work out well. Do you plan to run floss all of the time or just as needed? Skip

Hey skip, I'm not sure on the type of macros yet. I do know that I only want one really pourous rock in it so I can easily pull everything out during a water change to clean it out.

I've always been a fan of mechanical filtration so I do plan to run the floss all the time. Only thing in such a small tank it has to be kept very clean so I plan to switch it out maybe every 2-3 days.

For lighting I actually plan to cut down the light that I'm running on the tank now and set it on top of the fuge. I hope to custom make a bank of LED lights to install within the fixture to light the fuge.

this pic shows how the legs will fit.

After two months I thought I'd post up some updates. A couple things have changed. I went back to a halide setup but this time with a better ballast, a custom reflector/pendant, a 14K australux bulb, and one cool copper pendant hanger stand deal that I threw together. I had this pendant custom made by "dhoffroad" and it is awesome. He does excellent work. I also went back to the original hang on back and everything seems to be happier. I'll post some updated pics of the corals here in the next few days.

Ingenious use of copper pipe, I usually start thinking wood when I think about suspending a pendant. The new light appears to be a deinite step up. Keep the updates coming.

Thanks everyone!

reefman23 - thanks. yeah this reflector works pretty well. if you were considering one before I'd go for it, they're worth it. As for corals... I'm pretty particular with this little tank so am very selective with what goes in but so far I have probably 12 different variations of zoas, 7 different ricordia, a red blasto, and some neon green star polyps. There is still a handful of things that I'm persuing though... like the zoos in your avatar

SadieLynn - what is up :rsml: ya know I'm not sure if I want to paint it or not. originally I wanted to paint it like an aluminum color to match the pendant but now I'm debating. I kinda like the copper look. What do you think I should do?

skipm - you would have laughed had you seen my original 2x4 light stand... oh man dont remind me, that thing was hilarious. :pukf: Thanks for the compliments. I'll keep the updates rolling!

Jordan8008 - I guess I was kinda going for the "science project" look and it turned out looking pretty clean. Thanks for the compliments. :win:

I hope to post up some new pics of the corals and will as soon as my new lense arrives.

that reflector is from dhoffroad, right? I would love to run one but my canopy doesnt have enough room...someday maybe ill go with a 150 watter in place of what i curently have... (2)40 watt pc's and a 70 watter 14K.

I'll get a new full tank shot up here pretty soon.

I worked on the copper stand again today and added hooks for the chain to hang from instead of the wrap-around action I had going before. I think it adds some additional class

I appreciate your guys input... i still dont know whether I should paint it or not. Cause I do like it now I dont want to ruin it but on the other hand it might look allot better painted. Questions, questions, questions

Yep the reflector was made by dhoffroad. He actually sells this reflector as the 70/150watt version so when you upgrade this one will work.
