    tank may need reetablished

Sadie, First I just want to say I'm sorry for your loss. It sucks watching a favorite fish go downhill. Ich is in all reef tanks. I haven't read of anyone that QTs and treats EVERY piece of rock and coral and fish that goes in their tank. Running a QT tank will certainly help, but even if...

    anenomes

Why do you want to move it? They wander to the area that they prefer. As long as you want it in the tank, just leave it alone. If you're trying to remove it from the tank entirely then sometimes putting some ice in a ziploc bag against their foot will help get them to loosen up. Sometimes...

Colt will probably do ok...20w on a 10g is a little on the low side, but it'll probabaly be alright. B

 I'd halve your photoperiod, but it's your tank, and your call. This is just one of those areas in the hobby where some folks disagree. B

    Tank progress

Sorry, we're just gonna disagree on this. Everything in this hobby requires patience and small steps. A new tanks 'cylce' is primarily the simply the time period it takes for the aerobic and anaerobic cultures that break down ammonia to nitrites to nitrates to become established. We're...

    Tank too hot.

Kris, You may be right....I reread it just to double check myself, and he doesn't state anywhere that it's a nanocube. I made the inference from the description he gave, but I could've simply assumed wrong. ;-) B

    How many pixs?

If you're a novice photographer, and want something that'll take good pics on 'auto', and yet still has capability to go to fully manual so that you can learn a lot from it I'd suggest a nikon 5400. They've been running rebates on them recently that brings the cost down to about $300. It's an...

A couple of new additions to the cube

SM, I pretty much expected the misbar pattern to remain to some extent, it was just such an extreme misbar on them that I couldn't see them growing into 'normal' patterning. When I got them the spot was distinctly separated from the stripe on the right side. With the larger of the two I have...

    Tank too hot.

First, you can't be sure it's not a problem with the heater. This is a 12g nano cube, others with the same tank and light aren't having these heat issues. Second, most of the people that bought these tanks like the enclosed hood, that's why they bought them in the first place, so telling him...

    Perc/Occy in a BTA?

I'm with you here. They will generally try to host something, but the tank raised ones do seem to have their own weird definition of an acceptable host. I had 3 tank raised occelaris over a 2yr period. One hosted a patch of mushrooms, (smooth ones, not hairy ones), one hosted a power head...

    Perc/Occy in a BTA?

My percs host both my GBTA, and RBTA. They also both liked the electric green carpet that I had for about a week. The black ocellaris I had was hosting a GBTA in the store when I got it, but never, ever hosted the GBTA I had in the tank with it. B

    Tank progress

There's no reason for you to have your lights on during the tank cycle, it will only spur algae and diatom blooms. The spots on the rock sound like the start of a diatom bloom now. The lights don't help anything except algae and diatoms at this stage so leaving them off won't hurt anything. B

    nano tank filtration

How many and what type of fish you do plan to have in it? If you're only gonna have 1-2 small fish, then a 3g water change weekly would probably take care of your waste export for this sized tank. However if you plan on having 5-6, and/or would rather do a monthly water change not a weekly...

So so picture of my 12 gallon

Are you using black sand? It looks like it in the pic. I tried it in a small 10g tank at one point. I liked it for a bit, but as stuff dropped on it from the LR, it started looking more salt/pepper, and I didn't like it as much anymore. When I moved I scrapped the tank altogether. B

    T5's

It's kinda like comparing apples and oranges. One is not going to equal the other. Par values are going to be different. I'd just go with as much as you can cram in the space you've got as your budget allows. B

    nano tank filtration

I think it has to do with low bioloads and more water changes than are done with normal tanks. I don't see why you couldn't run a tank without any filtration and just regular water changes. But filtration is very cheap for a nano, so I don't see any reason to skip it, since it does add to the...
