Hey, looks great! I'm planning on doing something similar myself. I glued up a pvc frame today. Duncan poyp $10. Holy moly... Here they are $3 (aussie dollar is crap compared to yours at the mo' too) Mind you, you can get your hands on some awesome rics and zoas that we can't unless we are...

Do a search for refugium. this is the 'plants on top' system. It is macro algae that is used to use the excess nutrients in the water so that they can be removed by cutting back the algae and removing it from the tank. I think removing as much of the filter sponge as you can is a great...

    T8 lighting?

Ok, you would be ok to grow all soft corals in there. Maybe zoanthids would be a bit lacking in light. But you could buy or swap a small one for a test.

    T8 lighting?

You could grow some soft corals. sinularia, leathers ect. You would also be able to grow most corallimorphs (mushrooms) It depends on how deep your tank is. The spectrum of natural light starts to break up the moment it hits the waters surface so the higher you get them, the better...

some of my fave mantis clips. 2 of which feature nanotanks. This is cruel but interesting. Watch the CBS defend itself by 'offering' it's claw to the mantis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG2tvepHN2A This one is my all time fave. Love the editing. Turn it up if you like System Of a...

    additives for corals

If you are using artificial water, a good brand of salt should have everything that you need. What have you got in your tank? You should only be adding supplements if they are required. I have a mixture of LPS and soft corals. I add calcium for the LPS and coralline. I also add a very...

    Finally put my tank together...

There are lots of hermits and snails available. Pick small ones. hermits can be found easily on a really low tide, .10m or lower. Check bom website for details. The snails you need to be careful with. Don't pick the biggest. They could be carnivorous. You need to turn some rocks over...

    Finally put my tank together...

The bacteria population are living in your rocks and your substrate, actually on any surface in your tank. They are not free swimming so big water changes won't affect that. You will need to keep an eye on your fish though. You will need to remove them, then aclimate them to the new tank...

    Funkngroovy's nano (7.5G)

The pump is only an 8 watt model that is rated to 800L/hr so it is quiet. The lighting is an old 500mm (too big) T8 that I had but I will eventually get a small 70watt metal halide so I can get some SPS corals. Thanks for the nice comments.

what to put in the filter?

Not much. Most reefers now rely on biological filtration. I would just be putting in a bag of good quality activated carbon and some filter floss on top if you feel the need to. If you do that you should rinse it every 2 days. Does that tank come with a skimmer? If it does, I wouldn't...

    nitrates

Confirm your readings with the LFS. How deep is your sand. Sometimes sand beds between 2 and 5 inches can be detremental by not being able to complete the nitrate cycle. How 'bout some tank shots?

    Funkngroovy's 22g with sump.

lol Well after a near disaster on Sunday, I have finally added a full syphon to the overflow in addition to the Durso. I never really understood the concept of the silent overflow when I plumbed the tank oringinally and still don't understand why R. Durso's site doesn't mention that you...
