You really should take it down to the LFS. They can pack it properly and use one of their boxes (recieving) to send it in. You would be risking killing it if you dont do that one properly.

I have read some articles that skimmers can remove some essential elements such as iodine or strontium. That can be replaced. Using an oversized skimmer allows you to overfeed the system which is great for coral growth. Double D's tank of the month on reefcentral explains this further...

probably a bristle worm. They are nothing to worry about and will clean up any scraps in your tank. Could also be a fireworm, they are similar to bristles, but they can sting. Nothing to worry about either way
