My First Pico.. An Updated Document

I personally like bristleworms as I see them a free cleanup crew. For now honestly you could wait a while in between testing because at this point waiting will only let your tank mature. Just top of with fresh water and let time do it's thing.

    Is your tap safe???

I'm a meh for premixed. It's convenient for small amounts I guess, but it doesn't seem to be for everyone as I don't like paying for someone else to dump salt in water with a power head. Plus then I would have to carry around water that weighs eight pounds a gallon up and down even more stairs...

LOL  The only things that happen quickly are disasters and empty bank accounts.

    5 Gallon Starter?

I say they do quite well. Lighting requirements aren't that high, plus you can supplement via feedings if need be.

    Tank Photo Chronology

I use a heater in my change water to match the temperatures as closely as possible. A variation in tank water is normally ok if the change is slow. Quick changes can stress things out. The nitrates are more than likely coming from the fish. If this is a 12 gallon I wouldn't add anything else...

    Is your tap safe???

I personally need all the help I can get! LOL So I found in the long run for me it was actually cheaper to put the cash up front for the RO/DI unit only because I have the 90 gallon, the 12 gallon, and now my 20 gallon holding tank. I agree that the price is quite a bit higher, but for me...

Sounds like the good kind of pods for sure. Not a definite sign of great water quality, but a good sign that the tank is coming along nicely!

+1 to feather duster. You don't *have* to use chemicals for the cycle, time will work well too. PH can and will swing a bit, lights being on and off will contribute to this as well as oxygen in the water. Having the waters surface "rolling" will help with gas exchange and minimize the PH...

    Diatom Bloom

I am sorry to hear about the problems. My diamond goby was almost 4 inches when I bought him (for the 90 gallon) and grew about an in in the year I have had him. My friend hasn't had any issues with his biocube, so I know that they can work well, I'm just sorry you are having issues. A maxi...

    JBJ Nanocube DX

MH is not in the nano, but it is over my 20 gallon long temporary tank. My 90 gallon is coming down since I am moving out of the town home. I will not be setting the 90 gallon up until I find a more permanent home, but the 12 gallon is coming with and I will be purchasing a larger "nano" to...

Moot point on the crab, but yep that is the spitting image of the crab. My corals tend to go nuts or cyclopeeze too. A little bit goes a long way so when she said smidge, she meant it! :cool1:

One word of caution with the diamond goby. Mine is HUGE, almost 5 inches. I don't think a nano is a good long term home. Might be ok for a bit, but eventually I think it will need to move to a bigger tank. (They keep the sand SPOTLESS though, water will be *dusty* for a bit as they are...

Current Sundial 30". 20 Long (OR) 29 High, Help Help He

I have 6 55w T5s on my 90 gallon and that is quite enough light for my tank. I don't know how much is lost going to the 24w bulbs, but math makes me think it should be *ok* although some things may have to go in the upper half of your tank.

I get the same info on any crab. I have seen plenty of people with green mithrax crabs, honestly I don't see a whole lot of black ones. But another reefer I know of is quite experienced and I don't think that crab is a mithrax, rather a xanthid crab and not reef safe. Photo by Marc...

Nice colors! Are you sure that isn't a bristle worm in the center?

Yep, it does sound a bit overfed. Very easy to do. Something I do is once a week or so I will soak my food in Selcon and Vitachem for a while to enrich the mysis shrimp.

Consistency is more important than the actual number. If you keep the water near the same number as best as possible that is what is more important.

I personally have my water at 1.026 but I have seen tanks with levels just like yours. Any particular reason you came up with that number?

    Finally put my tank together...

Glad to hear you are enjoying your tank. I do think going a bit slower now would be a good idea. Let the tank mature up a bit and see if you can get the algae under control before adding in any *sensitive* critters. Did you happen to get a shot of the coral feeding?
