    starting a new 20L

That link didn't work for me, but I see "Current T-5" in link so it should be OK.

My First Pico.. An Updated Document

I do lean toward an approach that doesn't use too many additives. However, quite of few chemicals perform quite well. Just read the whole product description as many reefers have used them with success.

Encouraging Ocellaris Clownfish pair to host an anenome

:) He's a bit of a show off. (For a good reason! That is a great picture)

    How many fish??

I wouldn't put more than two clowns in a 20g. And I would keep it to one species due to tank size.

    stock lighting JBJ 24 cube

The stock lighting should be a 50/50 10k actinic bulb if it is a JBJ nanocube. Those corals should do OK, but I may look into adding that extra bulb.

    Lights for 2.5 gallon

I have seen any where from 8 - 14 hours with seemingly little stress to inhabitants. I personally try to mimic nature with actinics running 11-12 hours and my main lights 8-10 hours.

    will I need a chiller?

Nice info! I have seen others use the egg crate to relieve pressure but seems to come with perks!

    3 gal questions

The 8000k fixture may feed algae, but for circulation any small power head should work. You may want to look into a small hang on back to keep you inside of the tank clutter free.

    replacing bio balls

If you have been using the bio balls already I would advise a gradual removal. 25% a week should be fine. Otherwise you *may* create a large spike in the nitrogen cycle.

:) looking forward to pictures! :) :welcome to Nanotank.com!

How much and what kind of substrate?

The big reason I use sand is cosmetic, but there are a host of critters that live in the sand that are beneficial to tanks as well. I have a blue spot jaw fish, but I admit I did not research well before the purchase and it is hit or miss with this fish. I have been lucky so far, but I am...

    NEW BIOCUBE 14

I honestly would just let this thing cycle for a good month or so with no lights (cook the rock). You will notice some bad smells, but that is normal for what is about to happen. Massive die off is ok, but you should have a pretty wild initial cycle.

    New 2 1/2 Gallon

:) :welcome to Nanotank.com! You can almost never have too much rock, the only real down side is if you pile it up detritus can build up inside the crevices. Good water flow will prevent that. Water is never truly "live" the bacteria live in the sand and rock so the water is just the medium...

    LED lamps for 36" tank

I don't have the links to support what I'm about to say: But if my memory serves me right the LEDs have equal to if not better PAR for MH lighting at about 150W or lower. Also VERY little heat is generated so the lighting does not have to so high off of the aquarium. Then there is the amount of...

    starting a new 20L

Check our vendor list. Those stores have a decent selection. I have heard of a lot of people using these... I used a retro fit so my personal experience won't help here. http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant ... Current-T5

    DIY wet/dry filter refugium

A very true statement about the change of info. Bio balls are not *bad*. Actually they are quite good at their job, to house bacteria that process various component of the nitrogen cycle. The big issue I have with them is that they do this job too quickly and lead to a rapid increase of...

    Finally put my tank together...

I love the good news! Keep up on the husbandry skills. My anemone doest that same thing plus it will deflate every once in a while (expelling wastes is the best answer I could find).

How did you hear about this site?

I have the JBJ nanocube 12DX and I am purchasing the JBJ 28G HQI. They are ok, but normally a few tweaks have to happen to make the most of them! BTW... :welcome to Nanotank.com!

    will I need a chiller?

I don't have this setup, but if your home is at 72 then I don't think you will have any major issue keeping the temp at about 80.

    Finally put my tank together...

Just keep checking and keep on top of the water changes.
