    pearl jawfish (yellowhead)

I have a friend with one in a 10 gallon with a couple of small seahorses and she says he is always moving around his burrow sifting sand. You definately need at least a 5" sandbed in order to keep him happy though.

    moving a sand bed...

A cycle can be triggered by disturbing the lower layers in a deep sandbed but the sandbeds we usually keep in a nano are not that deep so with a little caution you should be fine. You may want to keep some extra water around for a little while to make sure it doesn't cause a small cycle though...

    i had an idea....

I just thought of something that may help me prove my point. Take 2 same sized buckets and fill them to the top with water and place 2 of the same powerheads/pumps in each with a hose attatched and set them up to pump into the other pumps bucket. In theory since both pumps have the same rating...

    i had an idea....

I don't think a power outage will cause any problems but it will be all but impossible to match the flowrates in both the filter and the return pump. Like I already mention if either is off or gets off over time that will end up causing a flood.

    i had an idea....

I don't think it will work because you would have to be able to match the flow coming from the filter drain with the flowrate from the return pump, if either of these is off you will either run the sump dry and flood the tank or overflow the sump.

    Ages? Occupation? Pics?

I don't really have too many pics of myself but here is one from a couple of years ago when I was working at a soccer camp, its pretty obvious that I am the one on the bottom.

    Talk About FREEBIES.....

I know exactly what you mean. When I used to do cabinet work one of the dealers we worked for used to send us out on jobs where other installers had already made the homeowner mad, we got to be extremely good at smoothing tailfeathers. You got some very nice looking corals though, what else...

Ok ready to order Live Sand & Rock!

Yes its fine to add a skimmer later. The other problem that came to my mind with the skimmer you have is that it goes in the tank and with only 10 gallons of space loosing any of it can be a bad thing.

    Dragon's RedSea is Ressurected...

I am near setting up the same tank but had no idea that evaporation was that bad, I figured a small amount daily but you make it sound much great than that. What do you think of this, I don't plan on anything but corals and a couple of snails so I was thinking that maybe I could 86 the...

    PLEASE tell me im crazy....

I have to agree, skip the mandarin until you upgrade to a larger tank. Then you'll have to find something else to put in the 5

Ok ready to order Live Sand & Rock!

Remember that running skimmerless is an very realistic option as well. You can control your nitrates by not over feeding or over stocking along with doing weekly water changes of at least 10%, not only does this keep the bad stuff down but it also replenishes your trace elements, calcium...

    Six Line Wrasse

That kinda messes up their established/claimed territory and they have to start over. If the problem reoccurs you may have to trade one of the fish in or move them to another tank. Good luck

    New to this

Thanks Sadie, I was referring to NO bulbs. Here are the ones I used (a long time back when I was first starting out) and am most familiar with: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/P ... 004+113350 and http://www.petsolutions.com/Coralife+50 ... 23-C-.aspx . The second bulb has a built in...

    Tips for buying live rock

Premium Aquatics is a great store to deal with and they do sell nano LR but I would call and talk with someone there asnd tell them what you want you tank to look like and its size to help them pick LR to fit your needs. I haven't bought LR from them but I have bought other things and they...

Ok ready to order Live Sand & Rock!

It sounds like you are well on your way Kay. There are alot of us that use the bagged livesand called Arag-Alive, all you do with this one is pour it in the tank (DO NOT rinse this product, just dump it water and all). Buying premixed saltwater is fine, you just need to check the salinity...

trying to DIY, but need a little help

Its usually the MiniJet 606 that people use for this changeout. Others have used Rios or MaxiJets but I have also heard of some people complaining of heat issues afterwards, not sure which pumps caused the heat probs though.

    Drilling glass tanks...

I have done this a few times myself and I found a bit similar to the 7123 bit he listed to be perfect for adjusting the hole size a bit bigger. I also use a chunk of plumbers putty that I form into a ring around the area I am drilling and fill it with some water, the extra water tends to keep...
