i have moved a couple of tanks with no problems. the only thing i did was leave enough water to keep the sand covered. the latest move was six plus hours.

A cycle can be triggered by disturbing the lower layers in a deep sandbed but the sandbeds we usually keep in a nano are not that deep so with a little caution you should be fine. You may want to keep some extra water around for a little while to make sure it doesn't cause a small cycle though. Good luck.

Hi Jesse,

I agree with Skipm that if you disturb a deep sand bed in say 3 to 4 inches of sand you can start a small spike of ammonia to nitrite. But the upper layers of sand in a inch or 2 doesn't usually solidify.

You see, when I had the two nano cubes I was able to transfer my sand no problem because the sand stayed lose, it never became solid; like in my 72 gallon the sand has become solid.

For example I tried digging a small hole in the sand for my new blue carpet and as I reached a deeper part about 2 inches down I felt the sand become chunks, I stopped digging and placed the carpet in.

I never had solid sand in my previous cubes, so I think you will be fine. In deeper sand beds you get the anareobic bacteria breaking down nitrates and if you disturb this colony you can start a mini cycle.

Hope this helps out, justin, my bad I mean Jesse.... J/K All in good fun right...

Thanks Matt, very helpful. My sand is loose all the way to the bottom glass, so I should be fine. Oh sorry, I meant Mike.

Thanks
