    Long Green Hair Algae

I have to agree, if you try chemically treating it you are just trading one problem for potentially another. Try to find out why you have it and make changes to get rid of it. In the meantime go with manual removal, additional current, change bulbs if its time, make sure temps are stable, and...

Looking for a Retrofit PC fixture Help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The single 18 watt retro you found would work but the 2x18 watt retro is just a little bit more money and would work great on that tank. You would have to build a canopy with either one.

    water change

If I were choosing between a refractometer and an RO unit I would go for the RO unit. As I mentioned in a PM to you if money is tight you can buy a good floating (looks alot like a thermometer) hydrometer that is very accurate for under $10, here is an example of a couple...

Metal Halide On 6G: Is this overkill?

Actually the glass on a double ended bulb is for UV protection. A single ended MH bulb has a UV shield built in, if you look at it there is a smaller bulb inside of a larger glass envelope. A double ended MH bulb is like the inner part of a single ended bulb because of this you have to have a...

    Nanotank Frag Swap IV

Isn't the weather getting a little too hot for thermos trading? No matter to me though because I don't have any frags now thanks to some trading at our reef club.

    Northern California species...

I believe that catalina gobies are native to the California coast. Abalone are also available but I think they are not the same species we keep in larger tanks, I think those are actually a tropical species that we keep. I think some cleaners like hermits come from southern CA to Mexico and I...

    Red Worms?

If they are spaghetti worms they are fantastic detritavores, I even went so far as to buy some for my tank. Most of the worms you find in your reef are good even bristleworms, some people do wish to remove large bristleworms but that is a personal preference.

    New 5.5g Tank Setup

Sometimes it may take a week or so before zoos will open if they get ticked so as long as your water parameters are good just be patient. You also don't have to worry about too many pods, they will only produce as many as you system will support and the rest will simply dieoff.

Metal Halide On 6G: Is this overkill?

I have to agree with the masses, too much heat for you current tank. The 70 watt MH will also be a great addition to your current tank but IMO a 14,000k bulb even though will have less PAR than a 10,000k should be fine for your tank unless you are keeping high light SPSs.

    Pirate's Reef

There are alot of people that use the ballasts that can be purchased from a home improvement store but like Pirate already mentioned the bulbs are the wrong spectrum with the exception of them being used to grow macros over very large refugiums. You can find bulbs that are suitable for this but...
