    RO/DI Here Today! - Lighting

Mainly the daylighting, the actinics don't promote algae as much as the white lights can.

    which one would you choose?!

I actually have the Odyssea fixture you posted on my Red Sea Melody tank that I am currently using as a quarantine tank for frags and like it so far, it has been set up for aboiut 4 months now. I especially like that it is on a set of flip top legs since I like to run my tanks topless.

2006 model 12g nano cube dx

Those are some good links Ed, I do want to point out that the offset in the third link will cause alot of flow loss because of the elbows but if that isn't a problem for you then it will work great. I haven't looked at the thread where all of the links came from in awhile, it appears I have...

    Fraggin Frags.

You also bring up a point that I have mentioned in the past to members of our reefclub and that is when you have a pump go out at 9 pm on a saturday night it is not an online vendor that will be able to help you get back online and running before you start loosing livestock , its the LFS that...

    RO/DI Here Today! - Lighting

Why are you running no daylight bulbs from noon to three? Or am I just misreading the chart? Other than that it looks okay to me but you may want to shorten your photoperiod by 2 or 3 hours and then lengthen it up to this schedule over several weeks. This will allow the cleaners to catch up...

    Question on 10g lighting

That is correct, it is now awaiting a new tank since I added the Prizm to my 10 and there was no longer room for it. I think it will go on my 7 1/2 when it gets going.

    Weird centipede looking creature

What are your water parameters? Invertebrates cannot tolerate high levels of nitrates, large pH swings, copper presence which can be inadvertantly added if you have added water from a LFS that uses copper in their fish system, or big salinity changes can also cause invert deaths. There is a...

How to diffrentiate Wild corals from captive?

There is no set way any colony is going to act whether it is captive bred or wild collected. The animals in our tanks are all individuals and all have different likes and dislikes. One specimen may hate where you place it and you can place another colony of the same species of coral in the...

2006 model 12g nano cube dx

As long as the houses wiring will handle the addition of a room AC I would definitely go this route. A window unit is alot less expensive and a chiller also exhausts heat into the room and if the room is already hot I wouldn't want to add more heat to it.

    SRS NANOSKIM & FILTER HELP

The nanoskim just hangs on the wall of the tank and is not meant to be a water tight fit. It is design so that MOST of the water is skimmed from the surface of the tank. A MJ 900 should provide adequate flow for most corals but depending on how you aquascape and what corals you keep you may or...

How to diffrentiate Wild corals from captive?

I would also like to point out that from an ecological standpoint as hobbiests we shouls always desire captive bred fish, corals, and inverts whenever they are available to us. Not only because they are already adapted to aquarium life and are usually more hardy but because they are not being...

    Cyanobateria

Chaeto is short for chaetomorpha which is a macroalgae, it is also commonly called spaghetti alge or brillo pad algae. You can also use one of the caulerpa varieties but they can go sexual and release everything the have taken up back into the tank. The way that macros help get rid of the...

Salinity and specific gravity are a measurement of the amount of salt in your tank using different scales of measurement. For a reeftank I try to keep mine between 1.025 and 1.027, for a fish only go lower, say 1.018-1.021. Temp I first see what the highest is the tank runs during the day...
