Trying to get back into the game...

on a 20L, you wouldnt want to above the 150 watter. for a tank that is taller, 250 is plenty... there isnt a need for the 40 watter...those are designed for very tall tanks. On my future 20L, i will have 1 70 watt hqi with 2 40 watt pc's, just fyi.

YUP5588, you may want to take a look at melevsreef.com as well as a long (but educational) post here http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showt ... did=462212 Anthony calfo is an author of a few reef books and well known, so is info can be trusted.

Trying to get back into the game...

yes, LR/LS, some cheato macroalgae. The water enters the skimmer first, then the fuge, then the return. You should be able to fit a heater in there...as for the carbon, it should be okay as long as you dont restrict the flow with it. as far as lighting, check these out...

Advice on upgrading to 24 Gal Nano

I agree...even if it isnt a MAJOR issue, ie not that common, it is still a chance. a chance that im not willing to take. i would say that if you want an all in one kit, go with the aquapod with the 150 watt HQI MH. Dont worry about UV with that fixture...it should come with the glass. as far...

aqua c remora skimmers are the preffered HOB skimmer. I have the bakpak 2r skimmer...it works well but i think i would get the remora if i was to do it again. there are also HOB refugiums that have built in skimmers too. that may be an option for you. they are known as the CPR AquaFuge...

    I need everyone's input/suggestions...

I read that post from beginning to end...wow. well it looks as if calfo suggests higher flow than most others do, as well as getting the cheato rolling around with a dynamic flow. I think that i will use some of those ideas. I am also considering not using sand in the fuge at all now.

Trying to get back into the game...

Welcome and i agree with dickie on this one. just a warning of course, and take it for what it is worth, but "pre-fab" kits ARE more tricky to modify than a start-from-scratch system that you configure. despite this, the 24 gallon pod that you linked to is MY favorite of the three. Keep...

20 LONG First Area:Live rock rubble where there drain tube from tank is entering the fuge, and my bak pak 2r. Measures approximately 6"Lx12"Wx12"T. Second area: This will serve as the main refugium area. 2" to 3" live sand, a couple more pounds of live rock rubble, cheato, any necessary...

    Oh Boy....My Winter project...

I second that. you should be able to just hack it and use a 2 part epoxy and glue the new cut ends together.

    I need everyone's input/suggestions...

well, i think that the 19 watts= 75 watts thing is that you are getting the 75 watts of light that an incandescent bulb while actually using only 19 watts because it is a much more efficient lamp. I liked them because i read peoples testimonials about them and it seems the spectrum is just...

    Reefman's 20 gallon long stand...

yes...the inside dimensions are 31 1/2"Lx14"Wx31" T. So even if the 20L takes up the whole bottom, I will have enough hight to add a small shelf just for additives/food/etc etc.

questions regarding adding new LR to tank

i dont think that you should wait to add the LR because of the ick...i do suggest that you store the new LR in a bucket with some sort of filter on it to allow the rock to finish curing, even if it is cured when you buy it. give it a week in the bucket then add it to the tank.

here is the link. i will probably use two of these http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html . it is 5100k and seems to really help the cheato grow. plus it is pc, so you get 75 watts of light while only using 19 watts. also much less heat too.
