    I just did a 2.5 that cost me around 100 bucks (most the stuff is being shipped over night ) had I done it normally it would have been about 70-75 bucks I would say till you get the basics test kit 25-75 depending on which one you get (we use the aquarium pharma) hydrometer...

    look at wal-mart in the hardware isle you should be able to find rubber bumpers to fill the gap I will post pictures of them later , if you cant find them I may have a few here that I could send you ........ or perhaps some plexi cut stacked and glued together I would see about chipping a bit...

    Ed You may want to get a digi lab , refractometer , or a diffrent hydrometer . Something is not right with that picture I have a feeling that you are way high in the salinity .As for the ammonia and now your nitrAtes it sounds like you had a small cycle of some sort. What are you buffering...
