    Coraliine...finally

As many of you know, I set my tank up in December. I'm finally starting to see some coralline growth in my tank. I used all dry base rock so I didn't have a large source of it to begin with. I'm sure that it's not exciting to most of you guys but I was pretty surprised that I hadn't seen any...

    Fast days

fixed your definition. Occasionally I will miss a feeding and it doesn't affect anything (other than their appetite. It's good to help control algae a bit too.

    Formal Introduction

Deciding on coral depends mostly on what lighting you have on the tank. Assuming that you have compact fluorescent (or aka PC/Power Compacts) then you can easily start off with most soft coral. Button Polyps, xenia, mushrooms, star polyps...etc. These are low light demanding coral that will...

    nano chiller reccomendation

This is what I'm planning on using on my 29g tank if temps become an issue this summer. http://www.petmate.com/Catalog.plx?ID=205 At the bottom there are low flow pumps. These pumps have a built-in chiller and with a decent heater you should be able to keep the tank cool. $15 is a lot...

    stocking levels

Personally I would say no on the watchman and mandarin. The watchman goby likes to sift the sand, as most people quickly notice. Most will eat prepared foods but the biggest concern isn't if they will eat but how much. These guys are, literally, hogs. They will eat just about anything that...

    Snail Art?

yeah those are typical cerith eggs. Mine lay eggs about every 2 weeks so expect more of them. They usually are consumed pretty quickly in my tank so I haven't seen any baby snails yet. Hopefully you will have better experience raising them than I have.

Any suggestions for a DIY peltier chiller???

i tried the glass cover on my tank and really didn't like it. it was nice not to have to worry about water splashing on my lights but it really traps a lot in your tank. salt creep can become a mess because you don't want to let that salt fall back in the tank so you have to be real careful...

    Is this tank workable?

check out reefcentral.com they have a head loss calculator on their site that works pretty well. it has most of the pumps on the market built in to it.

    will my tank cycle

Use as much live rock as you deem necessary. I know that sounds broad but don't over crowd your tank with rock if it's not the look that you are looking for.

    Is this tank workable?

sorry to hear about the death. sounds like the tank over heated. 86F is pretty warm but i'm not sure how flexible fresh water fish are with temp. it also could have been stress related. hope everything turns out well and good luck with your nano.

    My First nano (30ltr)

good looking tank. i would watch your nitrates carefully. the substrate looks rather large for a typical tank so you might get some detritus trapped in it, which can cause your nitrates to climb. looks like you're off to a good start

    fraggin

yeah xenia will grow like a weed and before long you will have another piece that doesn't look like a frag. I fragged mine a few weeks ago and both pieces are now bigger than the piece that i bought from my lfs. Too bad most other coral doesn't grow this fast.
