Salinity issues - Should I be concerned???

The best thing that you can do at this point is to take a sample in to your LFS and see if they will test it for you. This way you can find the hydrometer/refractometer that is the most accurate and use that until your new one shows up. There is a temperature compensation equation that must...

    Doing what comes naturally

just so that you know the ocean doesn't stop moving at night. like jesse said, many creatures and coral come out at night and need the flow for feeding and propagation.

    Tunze Nano Reef Pack 200

IMO, skimmers aren't really needed in nano tanks if you keep up with water changes. I normally pull my water off of the top so it takes off any surface skim. I just took a look at the price on that $547... I used a Magnum HOT filter on my old 20g tank and ran mostly carbon in it. I...

    A new updated picture

very nice. i think most people's first tank is a mixture of everything that they can find. Mostly it's because they see things that look great and keep mixing everything, not that it's a bad thing. Your tank looks good and keep up the good work

    low ph

i suspect more than a low pH. Mine drops to around 7.8 if I don't keep an eye on it and my xenia's don't droop any. I keep my salinity at 1.025 if that helps you any. Also be sure that you have plenty of water movement. These guys love high water flow. In fact mine have moved to directly in...

    wittle bitty worm...YIKES!!!!!!

Well what ever is on the glass is in the sand because I watched a couple of them sliver down into the sand bed and they looked like every other squiggly line in the sand bed. Should I be concerned with the quantity of them in my tank? I know that they are good for the sand bed but they are...

    wittle bitty worm...YIKES!!!!!!

I have like a million of these guys in my sand bed. Most of the ones that I can see are against the glass and they have been doing the naughty non-stop for ages now. My lights turned off tonight before I could do my feeding so I flipped them on after 15 minutes of being off. There were about...

    When will my water clear?

Looks good. Can I give you one piece of advice? Ditch the cheap hydrometer and get a good refractometer. Those float arm hydrometers are very touchy and can trap tiny air bubbles, causing your readings to be off.

    mangroves

I thought about adding some to the back of my display but wasn't sure how big they got so it never went beyond an idea. Let us know how they turn out...personally I would say as long as the leaves are out of the water that you should be fine but I really have no idea.

Two questions, Oops I mean three

    1. I have never tried macro algae so I can't tell you for sure but what I have heard is that the plants practically disintegrate. I'm sure Jesse can answer a bit better 2. Have you checked all of your parameters? Could be something that's off. How's the temp, pH, lighting. How old are...

    When will my water clear?

i was referring to rinsing the aragonite sand that he used. I rinsed mine and it was amazing how much junk I found in it. Hell I even found a LPS skeleton, several large shells and a piece about the size of my fist. I don't think that was 0.1mm...lol

    When will my water clear?

can you post some photos of your setup? I'm curious as to how your pumps are setup. Did you rinse your sand before adding it to the tank? If not then you probably have some super fine particles that are going to take awhile to settle. I wouldn't turn your pumps off. The worse thing is to...

    Fission Power Skimmer

The first thing that you will learn in this hobby is that you can't trust 99% of what an LFS (local fish store) says. Most are out to make a dollar and will try to sell you just about anything. Water changes are essential in a nano tank. It's the best way to replenish spent nutrients and...

    Reef Experts...

For a closed loop setup, you only need one inlet and a return. A closed-loop is a direct line from the tank to the external pump and right back to the display tank. They are used mainly to add flow to the tank without having a pump inside of the display. A closed-loop setup doesn't have head...

    Fission Power Skimmer

IMO you probably don't need one in that small of a tank if you keep up with water changes
