i have zebras and bluelegs and they have been doing a great job.....as long as they are small. the bigger they get the more lazy they get.

Ok so i have a little problem. I have some well quite a bit of green hair algae in my tank. It always comes back. i take it out with a brush if its on my back wall or something and pick it off the rock with my fingers... heres the problem my nitrates and phosphates both read zero... why wont this stuff die. My lighting is on from 1 pm - 10 pm. I have a bag of chemi pure as well as cheato. Whats causing this stuff to live?

Cool clowns

by the way are you using R/O water? I have heard that you can get a lot of hair algee if you use tap water or well water.

Reefermike,

I'd scrap the algae off ASAP! I waited to long and it grew thicker, luckly I have a 66 gallon tank which is glass and used a metal razor (I know not to use a metal razor but the plastic razor wasn't sharp enough). Plus help with two yellow tangs which did a hell of a job eating about 50% of them or atleast trimming it down to the thicker portions. Since you have a 12 maybe a small tang could help as a more natural problem solver.... then you can sell him back to your LFS after everythings cleared out..... Good luck..

The ro unit was brand new. The algae isnt spreading. It isnt growing fast at all either. its just not doing anything. Its just there. Maybe my snails will tackel some of it.. we ll see in a couple days.
