Is there a way to lower the temp in the room? Say like A/C or a room fan? If you have a room fan, you can have it blow in the direction of the tank... prop the lid open an inch or two. You can also add a fan or two to the lid. Make sure your heater is working properly and isnt stuck in the on position.

tank sits directly under an open window, lid open and i do not have a heater but the looks of it i dont need one. I was however planning to maybe make my own chiller of some sort.. done the same way they water cool computers. im going to have to look into it more and might have to upgrade pumps

nanocustoms.com carries chillers just for nanocubes. They run about $100 and require a pump and some modifications to your hood. I'd get a heater just in case temperatures drop below regular at night. Especially if it sits right by the window. HTH

:welcome to Nanotank!

the room temp is just about 26 degrees. i think the problem is the lighting.. its very hot .. what kind of mods can be done for better cooling? I also wanted to add another 24 - 36 watt pc from nano customs.

thats correct..By the way i found on ebay 70 watt Mh pendants for i think 50 ready to go.. think im going to get one.

Benifits -

Cooler tanks because no hood.
Better lighting
room to put on a skimmer

those are what i can think of off the top of my head quickly

but there are the downfalls.

I got the tank for the sleek design, no hood pretty much gives up the reason for the tank

Open top means what ever fish i have might go carpet surfing

Im sure i can retro fit it into my hood and keep the pcs as well. which would give about 100 watts then i would cut holes in the top of the hood and place new fans... maybe 2 120 mm vantec stealth computer fans

What are your future plans as far as stocking? Depending on what you want to keep, MH might not even be necessary. If you want to go topless, you can do that with pc's too.. you can have a hanging canopy.

well for the same price that i would get a pc i can get the mh and get more for the money.. I am very avid and ambitious so im might end up going crazy and putting some clams or something. I dont want many fish maybe 2-3 if its aloud. Plus i just love the look of the MH in any tank its simply makes everything beautiful.

I totally agree with you about the incomparable look of a nice MH setup... A 70 watter would be great, especially with some PC actinic supplementation. I think a good 10,000k lamp with two 24 watt Sunpaq actinics would be perfect.... just IMO. the only thing that I noticed when I had a 70 watter is the lack of selection you have. That being said, once I went from PC's to MH, I never have, and never will, look back!

BTW, what is 26* celsius converted to fahrenheit?

i think its about 86 or 87 im not to sure i might be off a couple degrees

got my test kit and here it goes .. sorry about the order

Ca = 580 ppm
PO 4 = .25 mg/ L
PH = 8.7 or higher
Nitrate = 5 mg/L
Carbonate (Kh) = 90 mg/L
nitrite = 0
ammonia = .1 mg/L
free non chelated iron = 0 mg / L
chelated iron = 0 mg/L

plus i put on a hydro. ( spinning wave maker thingy) and bought some chemi pure, seachem reef buffer and sea chem reef builder

i added a fuge in the middle chamber but i dont have any cheato yet.

also i noticed a change in my rock... seems theres algee growing which is good. But my temp is still at 85 f right now

Pictures for tonight:

fuge light.. messy but will do the trick very nicely.. might paint it black but doesnt matter . you never see it

top down.. can see some of the algae

test the water this morning.

Ph = 7.6
Ammonia = 0 mg/L
nitrite = 0 mg/L
nitrate = 5 mg/L
phosphate = .25 mg/L
calcium = 540 ppm

It says on the seachem buffer bottle that 5 g will raise 40 gallons of water .1 ... it also states that it will lower my calcium which is good because i read ideal calcium is between 380 and 450 ppm

ok well i put about 1g of buffer in .. ill test the water in an hour or so.. by the way my temp has come down to 81.5 Was that last night when the light was off and is that now with light on for about 2 hours now. Well see what happenes

ok well then heres my update.. There are tons of bubbles in the tank. Just sitting on the LR and on the sand. No idea where they came from, my return isnt blowing any and there is lots of green algea,, more then before. Im going to cut my lighting hours down.

Am i ready for my clean up crew?
and what about these bubbles?

got an alkalinity test kit and the result is 3.5 mEq/L

OK so it appears that my parameters are in set. Now i do not have a hydrometer or refractometer so im not sure what my S.g is.

bubbles are oxygen... it would hurt anything to get a couple hermits. u definitly want to get a hydro or refracto. salinitly is very important.....
