T5's are nice but their actinics dont make the colors pop like URI VHO actinics..Just something to think about....

Im also thinking of switching to a EVC 10K halide bulb with either 2 65 watt actinics or 2 URI VHO actinics

Alright... here are some pics of my fuge.

So I found a pack of 3 of these at Wal-Fart for $0.98. The are the exact width of my fuge tank...

I I cut about half the height off of one to use it as a lid and put it in the fuge with one end of the tray a little lower than the other to force more water through the area of the Purigen bag...

And these are two more shots...

This one shows the LR/macro chamber. You can also see the filter sock there in the back

That's about it!

I get a little over 1/2 gallon per day. I have a 5 gallon ATO that I fill about once every 7 days or so. I have no lid on the tank OR the sump WITH a MH.

Wow,

That's a ton of evaporation in comparison to my 72 bowfront. I get zero evaporation per day and I have only a 3 gallon reservoir that gets filled once every 7 days or so.

Ever since I removed part of my glass lid on my sump, I'm seeing a lot of evaporation since I rigged two small fans that kick in only during the timing of my chiller.

I'm trying to see if I'm going to keep it this way or place the glass lid back on.

I think if you work on raising the amount of evap in your tank, your temp may go down.

I have no lids, and a 6"ish fan over my sump. with the MH on 12 hours a day in an ambient temp of around 76*ish, my tank doesnt get a hair over 78.5*

This may be the problem to, and solution for, your heat problem. you get no evap beacuse your display tank AND sump have lids.
It's like your tank's way of sweating!

Yeah,

You are right, either I get zero evaporation and continue paying the chiller bill or I find a medium some fans but not complete topless.

Well, the first in a series of "upgrades" that I will be doing in the next couple of weeks... new overflows. I had everything already just laying around for this very basic... and very simple... upgrade. I changed out the old 2" diam ABS elbows with some simple 1" PVC elbows. They are much less noticable and smaller.

You can see how much larger the old ones were and just how far out into the tank they went...

Next I plan on adding a canopy with a 4x24 watt T5 HO lighting retro, changing out/adding some new "shelf" LR, and modifying the rest of the plumbing.

I will keep you all updated as I go through these things.

oh and here is one more pic of my po pom that i snapped tonight! ;-)

This morning I got around to changing the plumbing. It is not completely finished, but it is a TON better.

The big idea with these mods that I am working on is to clean up the whole look of this tank. I really havent been pleased with the look of this tank... it just hasnt been "finished" enough. As a result, I havent really been stocking it and it has become sort of empty looking.

The thing with this tank is that is has been built from scratch from literally the ground up by myself... and it shows. Now it is time to make this tank look professional and finished. Next will hopefully be the canopy/lighting, then hopefully the new LR. It then should look awesome! :cele:
