So I went back to the LFS today and picked up a rather unique invert... a boxer crab a.k.a. pom pom crab.

You dont see them very often and when you do they are usually $18-$20. I was fortunate enough to not only find one, but find one for only $8.98.

He is pretty elusive right now so I wasnt able to get a picture, but he looks exactly like this:

I will try to get a pic of my own tomorrow!

i had a hard time keeping them alive. They'd lose their pom poms and then die. Also I could hardly find them.

I did have better luck with the porcelain anenome crab. Although they say they are filter feeders, they'll accept regular food like mysis shrimp and very small pieces of silversides, or anything really that you could give to him that was solid. He'd receive it, and then hold on to it for days just living off of that. I had mine shed several times, and get bigger, and live a long time. He would have lived longer, but when I got the 4 line wrasse, he became the dominant fish and ate/killed all shrimps and my poor crab.

Keep me posted with ol pom pom. Hope you have better luck than I did.

I traded my small maxima today for some zoas and a green monti cap frag. Thanks proraptor, post some pics fo the clam in your tank when he gets comfortable. Great system, BTW. You locals need to go to reef-a-palooza, Pro's got some great frags that he is going to be bringing!

Jesse

p.s. of course I will be getting pics of my new frags posted as soon as I can.

No... he has found a better home. He was so small and I was never able to find him a good place on the rocks. I have my two croceas and I love them.

The coloration on your zoas are great!
Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, they are pretty cool. I am trying to get a good assortment of colors. Im working on getting some rarer stuff soon... i'll let you know when that comes through.

Jesse

ps. I found two polyps of safecracker zoas on the smaller gold-centered frags. Im gonna separate the safecrackers and glue them somewhere else where they will spread on their own.

Im glad you like the zoa frags, I really like those denim blues. The maxima is doing well...After you left I dropped some DT's phyto in the little container that I was acclimating the maxima in and he looked pretty happy...He is sitting up next to my 3 crocea's right now and is opening more and more everyday...

See you all at reefapalooza

Well I found these attached to the gold-centered zoa frag...

They're pretty sweet.

Here is the brain that I'm trying to nurse back. It looks a little better every day...

And here is another goby shot that I took yesterday...

The tank is running great. I have no algae problems, all levels are testing perfect. I just sold off a bunch of chaeto on ebay, sold off the spare lamp i had, sold the pc fixture that I had made for my old 16g bow.

I bought some of that Aquamend from homedepot so I can attach my new monti cap and i'm gonna remove those two reds above and mount them on their own. for any of you that are curious, the Aquamend was recommended by Proraptor and it is $2.99 at Home Depot for a good-sized stick. Much better than the $12 or so that they charge for the putty at the LFS's.

According to www.zoaid.com, they would be called "Zombie eyes"...

The new gold centered one would be called "Kiwi krush"

The blue with green skirts would be "Blueberry fields forever".

Kinda cool to know that there is a name for them.
