Well, I've decided to start a new thread seems how I have completed my setup. It has been running better than I could have imagined, and am really quite pleased with it. :banadance:

The rock work is by no means final, in fact, I ran out of time last night and just threw it all in there in no particular way. Eventually I am aiming for a look like Tigahboy's 15 gallon custom from nanoreef.com.

Everything has opened up pretty well after the transfer. Temp is stable, although I havent began using the MH just yet.

Anyways, here are the first set pof pictures for the journal of what I guess you could call my "dream nano", seems how it is the tank that I have wanted since I got into the hobby about 2.5 years ago.

Enjoy and let me know what you think...

Thanks guys...the back is Krylon Fusion. Really worked well. And yes, i do need to go croal shopping, but i may wait until i get the rocks work the way that I want it. As far as the fuge, i plan on adding a couple more pounds of rubble to the 3 lbs that are already in the skimmer chamber. The actual fuge will be just chaetomorpha...maybe some red graciellia (dont know how to spell it!).

I just built the hanging thing for the lights last night, but i will paint it black when i get around to it.

Thanks again,

Jesse

Have you transferred all your corals from your other tank into this one? Take it slow, don't go buying too many corals.

With a tank like this, you want to make sure everything is stable and you get through your algae bloom.

Only then would I start to shop around for those cool coral pieces that make up that special reef.

The tendancy is to stock up real quick just because you have lots of room, don't make that first buyers mistake Jesse.

I know you better than that... :)

Everything has been transferred to this tank from the other one. But because the 16 gallon had such a small footprint compared to this larger 20L, it looks rather empty. I purchased some rubble from a LFS that had it in their SPS sump/fuge for months to place into my fuge, but after looking at some of the pieces, they are nice enough to maybe find their way into the display tank.

I am trying to avoid purchasing anything just yet, but seems how I am broke after this project, there isnt much I can do anyways.

Brilliant work Jesse.

What an extraordinary project you have created, which now is up and running and you tank is looking just awesome. It's so rewarding to start seeing the results of a project that has been well planned and executed. You did an outstanding job aquascaping the tank, and the blue background really brings a nice contrast with the rocks and corals, creating a very nice composition. Excellent work man. I'll be definitely keep track of this project, as it will gradually mature to a beautiful reef tank.

Keep up the good work!

I have to agree that you have done a wonderful job. I like the way your rockwork is now with so many caves and swim throughs I think it would be a fishes paradise.

well geez...after all of your wonderful comments about the rockwork, I may just leave it...at least for the time being. And seems how my tests have all had perfect readings since the first day (no nitrates/nitrites, ammonia, even alkalinity and pH are great), I am off to pick up a pair of black and white tank-raised (England) juvenille perculas. They are soooo nice.

Thanks again and I will keep up on the photos.

How the heck did I miss this thread???

Jesse,
Looking like a tank that someone planned and excicuted to perfection. I am sooooo loving the blue background. I think you have a winner here. It has SPS written all over it.

I tip my hat to you..... :maitre

Thanks, Dickie. although I am not too sure about SPS yet, but definitely going to get some ultra grade croceas sooner or later.

Thanks Jennie. Flow wise, I am using a QuietOne 4000 with a 1 1/2" pvc return line. The 4000 is rated for ~1,050 gph at 0'. But then it goes through the SCWD and the mainfold, so by the time the water makes it up into the tank, i figure I am getting about 650 gph. The head loss on the Quiet Ones is rather high because of the low wattage...this 1,000+ gph pump only uses 50 watts in comarison with the comparable Mag 9.5 that uses 95 watts.

Thanks again,

Jesse

p.s. I just brought the black and white perc's home, so pic to come sometime tonight.

Here are a couple of pics of my new babies...they are great. Now, taking pics of a clownfish are tough because they never sit still and are always wiggling. So you can imagine how hard it is to take decent pics of TWO clowns who are curiously exploring their new home.

I think that they really enjoy the switching currents coming from the manifold outlets.

Considering their age and size...both are still under 1"...they are rather dark. The pics dont really show it, but for those who are not familiar with black and whites they start out almost like a dark brownish-black, then with age their entire body turns to a very deep pitch black with bold white stripes, sometimes white stripes with a tint of blue.

Here is a pic of an fantastic adult pair...

Sorry about that... they are from the Ocellaris family...aka false perculas

To give the full "non-scientific" name:

Tank raised (England) Black and White Percula Clowns

Scientific name:

Amphiprion ocellaris var.

To the best of my knowledge, the only major breeders of these clowns are found in England and Australia...the English clowns usually show up a little younger and less than 1", and not as black because of that. The Australian-bred clowns usually arrive a little older, 1"+ and are usually a little darker.

Careful with SPS they are beautiful and expensive and require a very mature tank before it will take off..

Nah, mike i think what i said earlier was not the best way of putting it. I have studied SPS, but im not really interested in keeping SPS. All i have right now is a digitata...that is all i plan on having.
