Wow,

What a set of blues, dude you scored... Jennie, having to part with those must of been hard, I love blue zoos, over here in the bay area they are rare and too expensive to pick up....

You are lucky jesse....
Mike, you are right, I definetly scored. These zoas are great and are doing fantastic. I have always wanted them as well but they ARE hard to find.

new picks...

Here are some new pics of some of my corals...mostly Zoanthids.

I also included a new FTS... I'm not really satisfied with the arrangement (when are we ever), but it will do for now.

Here is a pic of a new frag I picked up at my LFS...

This is a pic of some of my zoas...those pinks are from Eddie's tank. They are doing great.

This is sort of the Zoa region of my tank...

Here are the babies...

And here is the new baby...

He is a ~1.5" baby T. Maxima clam. He wasn't exactly an "impulse buy" (I've been looking into clams for a long time, heck, that is why I installed a MH fixture), but I couldt pass him up. As always, pictures don't do colors any justice. He hasn't completely opened yet, but he is extremely responsive to stimuli and is free from PM's and is already attaching to some rubble that I placed just below the sand for him. He is doing great so far.

Overall, my tank is doing wonderfully. My nitrites are <5, nitrates are 0, ammonia 0, pH is 8.0, temp is always between 79.0 and 8, KH is at 200-250 ppm. I havent tested my Ca, but I will be getting a test kit soon because of the clam.

I want to keep these numbers stable, so instead of feeding the clam in the tank, I will be bowl-feeding him with phytoplex and cyclopeeze, as well as other filterfeeder foods.

Thanks for reading,

Jesse

nice pictures and well does pink zoos really look better in your tank than in mine and my ex-ric. looks sad why???? to much light for her...... i dont know why you dont like your aquascape looks really nice jess ....the babies are getting cuter by the minute.... they look unique red and orange lips .

I think the Ric is starting to split or something. I placed them under a ledge to keep too much light/water flow from hitting them. I am still only running the halide an hour or so a day...trying to acclimate everything slowly.

The rock is okay, it just isnt what Im going for.

sorry jesse but i don't know why i lost mine. here is the story for what its worth.....last aug i bought two small croceas about 1.5 - 2 " I put one in my hex and one in the 125. the one in the 125 attached and looked absolutly stunning for about a month and then i woke up one morning to mush and a shell - no sign of problem or anything. the one in the hex actually fared alittle longer but basically the same story. i was trying to feed them with a pipett. My two big clams grow like crazy - i can actually see shell growth on them maybe an inch in a year. When i toured the Dr F+S farm I took note of as much of their methodology as i could and that works for them you may want to set up a green water tank or maybe DT's is good enough?????????? it could also just be bad luck too, this was the first offering from their new farm and maybe they wern't up to par yet. I've noticed the frags I bought last weekend were far nicer then the ones i bought back in aug so hopefully you'll have better luck.....

BTW i really like your arrangement in that FTS....... i also have changed my 125 around again and went for the "less is more" approach as well. i bet i pulled out 30lbs of rock making a lower profile and far more open sand. I like this look it seems more natural and less like a fruit stand with corals displayed on a wall.........
great job!!!!

Jesse,

I love your Maxima clam. It has a beautiful mantle with a very nice range of vivid colors.
Your black clowns are gorgeous, and your aquascape is just phenomenal, especially with the introduction of those killer frags.

Keep up the good work man.
Your tank is looking awesome ;-)

Thanks alot, Andre. That means alot to me. The clam is very colorful and is doing great for what I can tell. I have been dosing Ca on a regular basis now to keep that up for the clam. I have been keeping a close eye on my pH and alkalinity...they are a tad less than they should be, but they are very stable.

The clowns are eating and looking spectacular...but i hardly see them. They hang out up in the back corners, looking as if they are hosting my black ABS overflows! They willingly come out to eat and snoop around a little bit when I turn my pump off. I began thinking that it was my water flow, but I really dont think it is considering that i removed the Loc-Line and am only using open-ended 3/4" PVC outlets.... I dont think there is much more current in this tank than there was in my previous 16 gallon, and my maroon clown LOVED that tank and current.

Oh well, now I am just rambling.

Thanks for all your kind words,

Jesse

That's great Jesse,

The important thing, is that you are constantly seeking for different sources to master the technical aspects of keeping a delicate clam such as the Maxima healthy. I'm sure with the proper care and husbandry it will continue to thrive. With the knowledge and care, the technical aspects will eventually become a reflex, which will provide you with freedom to continue to be creative with the project; the technical will be just like breathing.

P.S. My black onyx clown also used to do the same thing, until the day it fell in love with my hairy mushroom colony and has been hosting ever since.

Well, it's update time.

Nothing much has changed...no new additions to speak of, not yet at least. Brandon and I are going to exchange as soon as I get my stuff in gear.

Well it's sad to say but one of my two black and white perc's died. He was starved out by the other, and by the time I separated the two it was too late. He never did eat. Soon after that, I tried a yellow watchman goby. It too died, for reasons unkown, only 3 or 4 days after purchase. I tested my water, LFS I got it from tested my water, and neither of us found anything that wasnt right. They are in the process of getting me a more mature goby this time...free of charge.

I went out of town from last Friday morning until last night and my tank was unaffected. I had a somewhat skilled reefer-friend of mine come by on Saturday to just checkin in and top off my tank, as well as feed my bearded dragons.

Here is an updated pic of my clam which continues to thrive, thankfully.

Sweet looking clam. I hope you have better luck with the new goby when you get him.

WOW...thanks for all the comments.

I take my clam shots by turning off the return pump and using my hand to cover the reflection of the lights on the surface of the water. The blue pops like that because of the MH I think.

I picked this clam up at my LFS called Seaside here in Huntington Beach, Ca. They have a website... www.fishsupply.com .

Here is a shot using the flash...

Here is the pic of the sorely missed YWG...

Jesse,

So how are your water parameters? In particular I'm interested in your Nitrates and how long you have had you tank up and running?

Nitrates are almost undetectable, even by the LFS. This is the tank that I transferred eveything into from my 16 gallon on March 1 (I believe). The rock and sand was in my 16 gallon for over 2.5 years prior to this tank.

Nitrites and ammonia are 0, pH right around 8.0, specific gravity consistantly 1.023, temp at 78.5 to 79.5. High alkalinity, Ca at right around 400 ppm. The cheato and extra water volume are a huge help.
