Yeah,

But your new pad has AC all over the house so luck was on your side as you set up the new place...

Luckly, I insisted on AC central on all zones in my new house before I ever started looking....

I will never want to live in a home without the AC I just can't take the heat at night and I hate when my tank would rise in temp because of this hot condo.

Just to let everyone know, I decided to take this tank down. I moved into a new home and the work for two tanks is way too much; I don't have the man power to keep it up. So I decided to stay with the 72 gallon bowfront....

I will be announcing the price of all my dry goods for this little awesome setup. I have a A+ track record both on this forum and reefcentral for selling items, if anyone is interested email me.....

By popular demand this tank has been resurrected. I decided just to downsize the light and I purchased the black matching canopy.

I'm in the process of getting a cooling system placed on this tank; I'm researching the ICA 2.0.

Does anyone have any feedback for me? Do I need the uprgraded powersupply of will the stock power supply do the trick.

I'm experiencing up to 85 degrees with ambient being at 82 or 83 degrees. This is with no lights placed on the system.

Just a 50 watt submersible heater and the stock rio pump as the return.

I do have the 18 watt coralife mini-light and it does heat this tank up because I have all the splashguards on the tank in place.

I'm hoping the ICA will do the trick and Nanocustoms list it as a hang on the side option for non owners of JBJ cubes.

After removing one of the back covers; the one to the wet/dry filtration the tank has stabilized in heat.

In other words it was reaching 88 degrees with both covers and then when I removed the back one, with the lights on for 8 hours I only maxed out at 83 degrees.

This is of course with no fans, so I will attempt to place a fan to turn on during the lighting period and then off right after. If this doesn't do the trick to drop the temps, I'm going to look into the ICA for it's nano size in concealment.

Glad to hear that mike!!! i want to see what you do to this nano and well about your question not talking bad of nanotuners.com or anything just my experience with their products.....well the ICA works fine if i can say that cause it says that after a time will cold your temp from 3-5 degrees lower than before (might be true but tested with same water and not having something to heat the water light lights) so the fact is that only helps you with 1-2 degrees the most well on my expirience and well i think a fan blowing in your tank will help more cause i remove the chiller from them for a week and having just a fan blowing to the water i sow temperature dropping like 3-6 degrees so the fan worked better than the chiller so my conclusion is if you dont have it get a better chiller or just put fan(s) blowing on your tank and you'll be fine .... im still using chiller since i pay for it and i cant returned it, just because i dont like how it works, since i expected more from the chiller ...so since im runnin MH in my hood it helps alittle but also have alot of air flow in hood and also installed 2 fans in the feeding door of my hood and believe me fans blowing on water reduce more the temp. than chiller or anything else....

ohhh also other example is that i was looking your pico tank and that you had heating problems with it cause of minicoralife well i have same light in a 2.5g acrilic and what a did was to add a fan on filter so will blow water and no heating issues at all!!! for me always fans cool down tank like a charm.... and well PC fans are really easy to hide and to work with it in DIY.. if you need help on giving power to the fans just ask steven or me how to do it and that will work better than chiller (well if you get an JBJ nano artica chiller thats another story but they are really expensive $$$) so keep us updated what you doing...

How are the JBJ Nano Chillers? And where would you place the in-take and out-take tubes in the tank? Would this be placed in the back of the nanocube? If so, additional cuts will need to be made into the hood to accomodate the tubes?

I've heard a good deal about the Ice probes. It is supposed to reduce 6-8 below ambient for 10 gallons. You would have to drill your tank I believe, or drill a HOB filter (not a bad idea).

I took out my ICA 2.0 and am now using one of the small fans that Mike had running across the top of his tank. I believe they're like $6.00 at Walmart. I found it to be just as effective and is working for me just fine. My temperature is a stable 79 degrees and I run the fan 24/7. I've also got (4) 40mm cooling fans in my canopy that run when my lights come on.

Amen.... i think the same and almost did the same thing but i kept the ICA 2.0 just cause better to have it running than being taking space in storage :p :lol:

In an attempt to keep my 6 gallon cool and without having to drill onto the precious tank I'm testing a fan that I once used on my pico.

It's the dual fan Vantec HD cooler designed to cool Hard Drives. It has a built in heat sink and it fits right over the top of my drop in filtration.

All I had to do was invert both fans so the air will be shooting straight down to the trickling of the water; instant cooling.

Last night my tank went from 85.9 down to 75.5 in the morning. It would have kept crawling down but my heater counteracted it.

This fan is much cheaper than any chiller, less plumbing, less cables and efficiency seems to be great.

Only problem will be salt creep over time, but routine cleaning should keep this free of problems for some time.

Here is a picture of the cooling fan and I will be posting pics of it in action over the weekend.

Also I'll have the results of how well it does while the lights are on, so far I only have a coralife 18 watt mini light, that things gets really hot to the touch.

If all goes well, I will be upgrading the light to 36 watt 12 inch coralife or current usa.

So far I have the fans on a timer that will come on during light time only; working in sequence against the light as a source of heat production.

Evap is going to be a problem because I don't want to use the ATO on such a small tank, I'm going for the concealment approach on this tank...

I'm not a fan of the cords hanging out of everywhere on reef tanks. I like the clean look both on the outside and inside of my reefs...

Perfect!!!!!!!!!......... love it and the location too and the fishies next to it makes it look really elegant, i love the look , no wires at sight or anything alot better than looking the clip MH, but anyways you think the 2x9watts will be enough for this tank mike?? any plans on updating the light im asking cause i have a secret 2.5g tank that no body have seen jet (MUAHAHAHA) and im running your same light and i dont think the light is enough for it... IM thinking on putting a 70w MH but still thinking (i just love the MH look now)...

There is going to be a light upgrade, that is for sure. Only thing is I'm waiting to see what kind of heat I get with what I have...
