72 Oceanic Reef Ready Bow Front Evolution...

Mike, your tank is looking outstanding. One thing, I dont know if you are still having problems with your nitrates or not, but if you are have you considered a remote DSB? Say like a 10g trash can filled with sand with a small amount of water flow? I have been reading up on them and they...

    5 gallon question

Congrats! Well, first off, have you tested your water parameters? Is your tank done cycling? did you end up going with the 5 gallon eclipse? I think it is too soon to add any fish. In a tank as small as a 5 gallon, you want to allow your tank to become biologically stable before adding any...

Anyone use a water return manifold?

As the title asks, do any of you use /have used a manifold for their return? I have read that it is a highly recommended device by anthony calfo and seems very easy/inexpensive. It almost has me second-guessing whether I should employ this rather than the SCWD. Any...

    new to nano

I think most camaras have a macro setting...one that is designed for taking pics of objects that are closer that 12-24". THat is the setting I use with my Pentax Optio S5i. I always take my pics with the flash off. Another good idea is to upload your images to a free photo hosting site like...

    Great article explaining macroalgaes...

"Chaetomorpha is blue-green in color (Gosner 1978) and attaches in pools or on lower intertidal rocks. Some species can be found from the Artic to Cape Cod, others are found along the whole Atlantic coast (Gosner 1978)." I was interested in finding out, too. BTW, Welcome. Jesse

    Reefman's 20L...

Well, today I made the holes large enough to fit the bulkheads. yahyaa on that. Look like im just gonna use the two 1"ers as external dursos and have two 1/2" (maybe 3/4") return lines that hang over the back. I am looking at the Rio 8HF or the Mag5...what do you think about these two?

    Ben's 10-gallon

Your tank really does look great! Love the LR. I always look forward to seeing tanks develop. My suugestion would be to add a backing to your tank...either a plastic blue/black taped-on backing or spraypaint. Good luck, Jesse

BTW... BTW...looks like I'll be running a SCWD after all. I just picked one up from a member on another site for $25 shipped!! He says its only been running since Christmas. Does anyone know what the head loss is through a SCWD? I think Ill be going with a Rio 10HF. A LFS of mine...

    Reefman's 20L...

Thanks skip. Actually the bulkheads are teh same identical brand, but i took an inaccurate measurement ant the fish store. I didnt account for the threads. But your right, you should have the bulkheads in hand and use them to trace out the circle.

Can anyone tell me what type of coral this is ?

I think you are discribing two different kinds of feather dusters. These are very common, very safe. you will discover many of these over time. It is always fun finding cool hitchhikers...Its been over 2 years for me and i still find things....crabs, snails, all kinds of things. Jesse

Question about a kent product ?

Its a good way to add phytoplankton which in turn provides the necessary nutrients for hard/soft corals, featherdusters, clams, etc. I was just saying that you dont want to use too much because excessive amounts could lead to a swing in your water parameters. I alternate Phytoplex one week...

    Reefman's 20L...

I looked earlier today for the 1" slip bulheads and I found them at my LFS, Tong's. But they were $11 each which I thought was a little expensive. So I just took the measurements for the size hole that I would need and looked elsewhere. On my way home from drilling the tank at my dads house...
