Anyone ever heard of black sun polyps?

I worked for Aquarium Concepts for years and we got one or two every 6 months or so. They are called black sun corals (tubastraea micrantha) and are really a poor poor coral choice....pretty hard to keep but there are a lot who can keep the orange ones just fine. They are not photosynthetic...

That air hose thingy on power filters/submersible pumps.

It is there for oxygenation mainly for use with undergravel filters. No need to hook it up at all on a reef as long as.... 1) circultion is good... 2) you don't have a hang on overflow box that would use it to suck the air out to create the siphon. Using it also increases evaporation...

    Live sand

It's just a buck or two a pound at a local store. It'll cost you more to pay someone to ship it than it would to just get some at a store. Cameron

Got my 20 all setup today...my totally mobile nano...

They are 3/4 pvc conduit parts with slip/slip couplers connecting the riser to the 390 pipe. There is a slip/thread coupler from the 90 pipe to the regent hood. Ran about 4 bucks for all the stuff. Here are some more pics of the tank with rock, sand, fish, and a top off system...

Got my 20 all setup today...my totally mobile nano...

Hehehehe....top off is drying  I'm not sure about dividers....no real need for them. I'm a bare bones kinda guy and don't run skimmers or anything so I'm not sure if I'd benifit from dividers. Also, considering how flexible the sump is I'm not sure if they'd hold. Cameron

Got my 20 all setup today...my totally mobile nano...

My DIY light hanger...this setup will allow me to move the light up and down, along with the ability to swing it out of the way. Her's another sump pic. Now I've got some water in it, my heater and my return pumps. I chose to use 2 old MaxiJet 1200 pumps. I have a ton of them so why...

    Max load capacity

What is your bio filter? You don't have an undergravel system do you? Is the hang on filter a bio wheel or just a cartridge? Most scavengers don't count so much in the fish rule but it sounds like if you want a school you need a bigger tank. Could you elaborate on what filters you have...

    Removing the frame/brace on 10g

If you're talking about the plastic ring that surrounds the top of the tank than yes, you can remove it but you lose it's purpose. The tank will have nothing but silicone holding the glass panes togther and it you fill it full I'd be prepared for a cleanup sooner or later. You'll probably want...

    The Watts per Gallon Rule!

Wall, that is why I said it's a good starting point. It's def. no great. Most newbies who would delve right in would be looking for advice on MH and therefore would likely be informed. It's a good starting point but hardly realistic in a lot of apps. Cameron

    The Watts per Gallon Rule!

Without getting into the complexities of lighting, the watts per gallon rule is a good starting point for newbies and for poeple trying to get an idea on how to light conventionally dimensioned aquariums. With researching, coral selections, and every other variable I've seen that rule broken...

What is the longest you have gone without a water change?

Yeah, I DON"T recommend it...lol. It was ok but due to my schedule at the time getting a water change in was too hard. I try to avoid going any longer than a month. Cameron
