    RC closed my thread !!!!

Well, they do have some points but that's not really the point here. Your tank looks great and you've done a great job. You're, in terms of how reef keeping is generically defined, pushing the envelope in terms of what is considered good practices and bad practices. Either way, when you push the...

    7 gallon minibow canopy..black

I've got this canopy for a 7 gallon minibow. It's black, in good shape, no damange. I took down my minibow and no longer have a need for this. $80 shipped or best offer....all reasonable offers considered. Cameron

18 watts in 5.5 gallon enough light?

I will agree. For what you listed that light will be cool but for anything beyond that a better system like what DJCONN mentioned would be needed. Cameron

Setup another tang today...10 gallon plexi...

Dang typo...lol I've had the rock for years. I took down a bigger tank and consolodated everything into a 20 gallon and a 10 gallon. The rock is manano rock...something really light and porous. Used to be around a lot around 3 years ago but doesn't show up anymore from what I know. No...

    RO excess water usage

I wouldn't. I've always recommended just watering the plants with it. It's hard to say how bad it would be but it wouldn't be ideal at all for fw tanks. I'd use RO for fw tanks as well. The stuff that filters pull from water isn't good for either fw or sw tanks. Cameron

Setup another tang today...10 gallon plexi...

Well, I've been having various troubles with my minibow and refugium so I just decided to take it down and transplant most of what was is in plus some extra stuff into a 10 gallon plexi I had around with a DIY built in overflow box. The sump setup and plumbing is near identical to my 20 gallon...

    Alternative to suction cups?

:D...no problem. Suction cups suck period unless they are replaced every 3-4 months. The issue is the minerals in tanks (especially SW) will calcify in the rubber and wear them out. Just the way it is....all cups will harden and deteriorate due to this no matter what. Cameron

    tube placement

Doesn't make much of a difference really. I'd do whatever works best for you.... Placing it closer to the front would change how you see the light in the tank...it would of course be bluer than if placed in the back. Cameron

    Alternative to suction cups?

I used the smallest twisters. I paid like 1.49 for them I believe. I never liked hangers...too unsightly for me. Cameron

    Lights off during cycling?

Yes, it's a good idea to keep all lights off or only on for minimum hours through the cycle. It will reduce algae blooms, diatom blooms, and hair algae blooms. Prevents a ton of headaches....if you really want lights on only keep them on for maybe 2 or 3 hours a day. Cameron

    Alternative to suction cups?

One thing I really love to do is take some tank cleaning magnets (like the twister magnets) and silicone the inner magnet to the back of the powerhead, let it cure, then place it in the tank where you want it and secure it with the outside magnet. I've done this a lot and they last years. I've...

Cheap sumps & Negative health effects?

Well, I can't really say anything about plastic grades and such BUT I've used them for sumps and storage for years on my own tanks and customer tanks. Never experienced a single issue with any of them ever. Cameron
