Yup, no water change usually needed...just patience. The only times I ever have done a cycle water change is when the water gets so brown and dirty you can't see through it...otherwise just leave it until it cycles. Cameron

I don't know for sure really but I would say no, not at all. The outlet on the Mag5 is 1/2" and I had to adapt it up to 3/4 for the hose for the SCWD and my returns...pretty unrestricted. Cameron

I had 2 MJ1200 pumps returning water to my tank and I needed more flow so I got a Mag5 and a 3/4" SCWD to replace them. Tons more flow and I am running the Mag5 full and my DIY overflow is handling it perfectly...anyhow here are a few pics. By the way, I'm looking for misc zoo frags, softy...

Yeah, it doesn't do a tank very good at all....can crash it pretty easily. Too much calcium can have some nasty pH reprocussions as well. Always test and dose conservatively. Cameron

I'm not sure if there are any DIY articles on here regarding it but there are some around about installing smaller computer fans into the nanocube hoods for additional cooling. I am assuming this is a nanocube. Cameron

It's true that carbon can leach back out what it once absorbed but that's the reason it's only recommended to use it for short bursts (say 3-5 days a month then replace) or make sure that you change it ever 2-4 weeks. Cameron

What tank? What filters? What light? How many hours of light? Is your temp stable? Do you use tap water or tes for phosphates? Also, how much algae (meaning if your tank is clean how long until the algae begins to develop). That is way to broad of a post to help you without you giving us more...

Most I've seen, and in all 3 I've run personally, I saw/had either a DSB or s "biomud" type setup. I would recommend that route personally...also, I've not really read anything in regards to bare bottom fuges...everything I've read says use some substrate. Cameron

Clownfish are more popular...gobies are nice as well. You may also want to look in wrasses....I personally like 6 and 8 line wrasses. Cameron

It could be due to a few things....high organic levels where carbon would help...old bulbs where new ones would help...unstable pH doesn't help. How are those variables in your tank and what about the other water parameters? Cameron

It'll be fine...live rock is a very tolerant entity and it may need some mild recovery/repopulation but you didn't damage it. Cameron

Word....please do not place a tang or butterfly in a tank that small...it would literally be jail. You should read up and study their natural environments and what their swimming and feeding habits are. Once you know that you'll totally understand why placing them in a 30 gallon is unrealistic...

Small ones have been great for me and when they get larger I try to make sure I get some food to them periodically....keeps their opportunistic nature under control as much as you can. Cameron
