    JBJ Nanocube + Overflow/Syphon

I think it's probably doable. Is there some reason you're adding a sump to your cube? I'd check out a few of the threads here and see the types of mods that folks have gone with. If you're determined to add a sump, I'd try to determine from JBJ, if the bottom and/or back panels on the cubes...

Hmmm...Maybe I'm confused. Weren't you thinking of making your smaller tank a fuge? That's why I was thinking you'd just have the return and maybe another PH in the tank. With this setup I think you'll probably have plenty of water movement. Very nice diagram BTW. I'm used to dealing with a...

    hi new here....

Ummm...You can have tons of corals. As long as they aren't stinging each other you're all good. It's impossible to tell you how many of X corals you can have because everyone's aquascaping is different. Check this out. Talk about a zoo tank...

    hi new here....

If I didn't look up some other Monterey Park, you're basically a suburb of LA. There's tons of clubs in Cali. This is all from RC. Most clubs have their own website, but there's a couple that are just forums on RC. B Bay area clubs www.bareefers.org www.bareonline.org Central...

How many powerheads and what type are you going to use. How is your return coming back into the tank. If the return is strong enough and on one side of the tank maybe you'd only need one PH on the other side. B

    Egg cartons????

Not egg cartons. Eggcrate. Do a search. It's available at all Lowes and Home depots in the lighting department. It's just large sheets of plastic grid. B

The pistol, or the peppermint should be fine with the sexy shrimp. I haven't had this particular pistol shrimp, but I've had a couple others. Be prepared to never really see them. If you're lucky they'll make their burrow someplace where you can see part of it, or maybe have the opening near...

    more light questions-upgrade

I'd start with it running 7hrs actinic total with the dawn/dusk, so the 10ks would run 5hrs. Then I'd shift everything up by an hour until you were up to 12/10, unless you start running into algae blooms, in which case just drop back a bit, and try it again after another week or so. Just gotta...

    Should this be killed?

I killed off my aiptasia with a kalk paste for many months before getting a syringe. Now I either use a small amount of lemon juice, like SM suggested, or I just inject them with boiling fresh water. The lemon juice seems to work a bit more effectively than the fresh water. I often have to...

    more light questions-upgrade

I'd drop it back a bit to start with, then ramp it up gradually. How many hours were you running the old lights? For an end goal, I'd probably shoot for 8-10hrs a day, so probably 10hrs on the actinics, dawn/dusk, and 8hrs on the 10k. Or cut it each back by a couple hours. B

    Do I need protein skimmer?

You shouldn't need a skimmer on the tank even with a small fish as long as you do weekly water changes. Your choices for corals are all considered low-light tolerant which is good. However 9w over a 6g tank isn't sufficient to keep them. I have some of those same corals in my 6g minibow...

will I burn the house down?

I'd get a dremel, or a hand drill, remove the bulb, and drill lots of little holes in the hood directly over where the bulb sits, then put it back together and see if putting in these 'vent' holes will drop the temp a bit. B

    New Plate Coral

Regular short-tentacled plate. Fungia. We've seen it swell a little bit at night. The brown/tan area appears to be fading, so more of the purple is visible. I'll try to get some pics tonight to compare with the others. If I notice it swelling after the lights go off I'll try to get a pic...

This is getting into a much more technical area though, because you need a software package that can handle the RAW format. Even shooting RAW many of the photographers I know still adjust their WB, exposure, etc.. with the camera which means less time spent in post production. Do you know of...

 ...That figures. The pics look great BTW. Personally I like the last batch where you set the WB. It's a little overexposed, (means the sand and some of the other highly-lit areas appear too white), but that can be fixed by adjusting other areas of the camera. I'm still learning about...

    hi new here....

If you use the overflow surface skimmer attachment and just turn the flow down, (it's adjustable), you shouldn't need to change impellers reduce your flow. If you don't use the attachment even turned down it may be too much flow. Most LFS will carry either miracle mud, or mineral mud...

Simply awesome job Mike. If possible I'd like to see the moonlights in action....And a full-tank shot that includes the top, sometimes it's difficult to get a perspective on just how much room there is vertically in the tank without seeing the top as well. You got several beautiful pieces of...
