Pico "Melody" by Redsea is alive!!! (pics fixed!)

I looked up the manual for your camera, and found it here: http://www.nikon.com.sg/CATALOG/E8700_UserManual.pdf On page 78 it tells you how to manually set the white balance by pointing it at the sand and hitting the appropriate buttons. That should get rid of the blue cast, and get your...

Pico "Melody" by Redsea is alive!!! (pics fixed!)

Steven, Are you adjusting your camera's white balance when you take pics? The reason I ask is that all the pics of the 2.5g while very sharp seem to have a blue cast to them, which I assume is from the lights. Looking at the anemones I was wondering how true the pics are to their actual...

    Tiny Shrimp ID please

I'm basing it on that, mainly because every pistol shimp I've ever seen had one claw much larger than the other. It's not a very scientific method. 8) B

    Captive Purity Refractometer with Light

They pretty much mirror what I remember about my search on RC....Many folks are happy with them. However some folks seem to get erroneous readings due to stray voltage from lights, pumps, power heads, etc..., or they have problems with getting/keeping it calibrated, and sometimes the probe...

    Sick shrooms?!?!?

Re: hey That's the best way to do it as far as I'm concerned. Although I don't always practice it. I need to rearrange my surge protectors so that it's easier for me to turn off the pumps and close the ball valves leading to the tanks to keep the siphon from leaking back into the sump. At...

    Tiny Shrimp ID please

They look like some type of pistol shrimp. Hard to tell what kind. They may get more color as they get larger I suppose. B

    Captive Purity Refractometer with Light

Here's a short list after typing in: pinpoint AND salinity into the search engines on N-R, and reefs.org. Reefcentrals search function is overloaded and has been for about 30mins. You can try it in a bit and see what you get there. http://reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t ... t+salinity...

    Captive Purity Refractometer with Light

Either way it's money well spent. Mine hasn't been adjusted since I got it. It's been totally spot-on from day one. I just got lucky with it. I think you'll be very happy with your new purchase. B

Yep, they were $25 per polyp. They had several single polyps like these, and a few rocks that had multiple polyps. There was one really nice electric green multi-polyp rock that was $50 or $60. I asked if they'd break the rock but they wouldn't. I really wanted it, but I couldn't spend more...

It looks fantastic. You should post that pic of the split anemone here and ask Dr. Ron if he can id it. I dont' think it's a majano, but I don't know what it is either. But I'd like to know. I really dig lots of different types of anemones. On that note, I think that having as many anemones...

    New Plate Coral

Yeah, I was laughing as I was trying to take the pics to show Nathan and Stephanie how it looks in the tank cause the ff kept jumping in the way and throwing the camera off just as it was trying to focus. They almost never do that, but for some reason it kept messing with me last night. B

    hi new here....

Try running a search on them in the Vendors Experiences forum on RC, and on the Vendor & Trader Feedback forum on N-R. Since those boards are larger there's a better chance that someone has posted comments about them there. It's good to check here, but since it's a smaller board it doesn't...

    Captive Purity Refractometer with Light

Ouch....The $39 one that marine depot has will work fine. It doesn't have it's own light, so you'll need to point it at a light source to read it, but the folks at MD did a good job finding these. I have basically the same thing, but I got it before MD started carrrying them. My wife bought...

Pic of the week --- Top down view.

My 25g I managed to get a few shots without the step ladder, but just barely. for all the others I definitely need the ladder. Not that it takes much for me to need a ladder. :D B

Turn off your pumps. Get out your stepladder. Move the lights over. Try taking some shots from the top of your aquarium. It's a very different perspective than you normally see, and can yield some very nice shots. I've got a few, but I'm going to try to get some wider angle versions this...
