    Newbie...quick filter question

Personally I think you should still get a HOB filter that's oversized for whatever tank you get. However you could certainly try just doing water changes for awhile and monitor your levels closely to catch it early if they start to rise. If you go without a filter, you'll need at least an...

    Coral Beauty

The false percs can be just as territorial as regular percs...But I haven't had any issues with any of my occellaris/percula/pygmy angel mixes. B

    whats going on?

If you've tested all the normal parameters, (I didn't see a mention for ammonia, or ph), and if there are no other variables that have changed, (different temp, new salt, new corals, different aquascaping, new lights, etc...) then I'd suggest by process of elimination it may be the water. Mix...

    Newb starting a pico

Obviously I have days I can't find it, but it tends to stick near one of the pieces of frogspawn, so I start there and just kind of look in expanding circles around it. I can find it more often than not in a few seconds. B

    Coral Beauty

There shouldn't be any issues....Mine ate pretty much everything I put in the tank. B

    Feeding with cyclopeeze

Hmm....I generally don't target feed with flake. I do with cyclopeeze, krill, brine, mysis. I just squirt a little bit over all the corals with the turkey baster. None of my mushrooms that have a smooth surface ever close up around food. If you've got any shimp-pellets you might try it with...

    Newb starting a pico

Clown gobies do pretty well in nanos. They're generally peaceful with everyone except other clown gobies, so one per tank is the rule for nanos. If by sexys, you mean sexy shimp, you don't need any particular number. I've got two in my 7g nano, one in my wifes 10g, and one in my 75g...

    Mandarins

Actually if you do a search for the word mandarin, you'll get tons of hits. You're extremely lucky to have found one that'll take frozen. I'm jealous. B

    Feeding with cyclopeeze

As far as I've been able to tell, pretty much everything in the tank likes it. I turn off my return pump, but leave my circulating pump running so that it gets blown around to all the corals. B

    Fighting Corals

Normally you can tell if they're stinging each other because one will end up scrunched up, and not extending as much as normal. Sometimes the areas that are getting burned will change colors. B

    Glofish

Continuous exposure to the blacklight will likely blind them first then kill them. I'd only expose them for short periods, like if you have a party, and want to show them off, or for photos or something. B

    Any ALIAS fans??

I've never seen an episode on TV, but I've started watching the 1st season on DVD....I'm about 3/4 through them, and all I can say is she's the WORST spy ever. I'm sure if you watch it once a week it's not as glaring, but if you watch about 4-5 episodes back-to-back, it's just...

    more light questions-upgrade

PC bulbs are usually good for about 12months as long as they aren't over driven, or unless you're trying to keep clams/sps under them, in which case about 6-8months. If the lights are more than 3-4 inches off the surface you probably don't need a shield. Unless your pumps put out a lot of...

    Actinic

Most of what I've read hasn't mentioned actinic being helpful or hurtful either way...6700 MH or PC bulbs seem to actually work the best for coral growth, but they're very yellow to our eyes, and make the corals less appealing, even though they're healthier and showing faster rates of growth...

    Another Newbi :)

Just do your reading/research, and you'll do fine. I set up my main system the first time with NO experience whatsoever. My wife and I took our time and pieced the sytem together slowly as we found all our equipment used. It took us about 6 months from the time we started talking about it til...
