Unfortunately goldfish don't make decent food for marine fish. They don't have the right type of fatty acids. Some marine predators can tolerate it longer with some strange results, other's will die pretty quickly from malnourishment. This octo could have been old, although it didn't seem...

    Enough for a 29 gal?

No sweat. A lot of people helped me out when I was starting into this. Then I just kinda got hooked and read a ton. I'm glad I can help by passsing some of the info on to others. B

Nope...In fact there won't be any more pics of it. I found it dead this morning. This is the reason you shouldn't buy octos in the stores...They're usually fully-grown and you may REALLY not have long with them at all. All my params are testing good, so I'm gonna take a sample with me to...

    White Xenia Crab

Does it look like this? This was taken from the full frame image that I posted earlier here. http://nanotank.com/viewtopic.php?t=1194 This one is obviously in an acropora of some kind. Over on RC they're usually simply called acro crabs. Sometimes bandit crabs because some of them...

    Enough for a 29 gal?

My understanding is that the DE setups tend to be a bit more energy efficient than SE. I haven't really done a ton of reading on them, because I've never looked at going to lights that bright. For what I'm interested in keeping I don't need them. You're best bet is to spend a couple hours...

    swapping tanks

I understood that part. If you use your existing sandbed you'll probably have a cycle. When it gets disturbed all the anaerobic bacteria colonies will die, and you'll free up any decaying detritus that's in it. If you have to use it I'd wash it as well as you can with the old tank water...

    swapping tanks

If you do a new sandbed, and you get the new rock moved quickly into the tank, you shouldn't have a noticeable cycle. I'd use 50% of the water from the old tank and 50% new. Just siphon the old water out before you start moving corals and rock so that you don't disturb the sandbed in the tank...

need a light for my 55

It's not that we don't want to help. It's that you're asking for a specific recommendation, but not giving us the info to give you one. It would be like if I asked you what kind of car should I go out and buy tomorrow. You'd ask me what kind of cars I like. I tell you I like them all as...

    Enough for a 29 gal?

I don't know the difference in temp. I've never heard anyone mention that DE run cooler than SE, so there's probably not much difference. Since heat is something we're always fighting, it would have been listed if one was particularly cooler than the other. You do have to have a UV glass...

djconn's talking about the plate coral on the right side that's showing skeleton. They usually do better flat on a sandbed. B

    Enough for a 29 gal?

Here's a thread that shows the same tank lit with different bulbs. It's SE MH in this test, but the color should be similar for the DE. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... genumber=1 B
