    Temp. question

Dunno about your fish. I don't own a cube but maybe some acrylic set up to keep the fish out of the chambers? Cute fish though.

    Picture Frame 20's!

Very nice and ingenious. Ok, time to show my ignorance, why does the eggcrate in the bottom tank have the gap with pvc in it? I'm guessing it has to do with the nitrogen cycle but I would like to hear the explanation. Also are the "waves" in the material asthetic or functional?

I'm not sure how it is where you are at, but in my neck of the woods you can walk/drive around all the garage sales (maybe even trash day... ) and I've seen a lot of tanks for free out there... I even found a 50 gallon oceanic hex that was leakfree (gave it to my brother-in-law). So if...

    Temp. question

It will raise the temp, more watts. Instead of small fans see if you can get your hands on a 120mm computer fan. It doesn't make so much noise.

    Temp. question

If you put tape sticky side up on top of your tank for a week or two kitty will learn that he/she is not allow on top of your tank. Down side is you come home to a tape covered cat for a couple of weeks (DON'T USE DUCT TAPE, very cruel...masking tape works fine and doesn't seem to hurt cats)

Need some advice for a wonderful friend's tank

EBay has RO/DI units for about 100 bucks. The filters are just the same as the more expensive types, just the casing isn't quite as solid (still works great though). For cost purposes it's worth it's weight in gold for a larger tank. Just an idea.

Need some advice for a wonderful friend's tank

I second the idea of more frequent smaller water changes instead of one huge one. Gives the tank time to adjust to the changing water parameters. Cheato all the way, why give the caulerpa a chance to unload everything it's absorbed? JMO
