    green hair algae plague

kapenta - i would say your prob is #6 above. curing live rock properly - in the dark for a month or more with just a pump for circ while you occasionally brush, swish, and change water - maybe the most important thing you can do for a new system. and here is another one noone else will tell...

    CRABS!

i don't trust any crab even emeralds but then again porceleins (sp?) and lightfoots are kinda cool i guess...

    green hair algae plague

hmmm - i'll have to look back at your tank and its stats then i'll get back to you in general algae = 1) high NO3 but your water changes should have fixed that unless your source water is bad 2) high PO4 same as above but a phosphate remover like GFO may be in order 3) bad bulbs - bulbs that...

thanks guys - i'm getting there - it's been 2 1/2 - 3 years since i started my journey into an SPS dominated tank but the time is finally almost here.... the zoas went to fiji and the softies are in the hex. i will keep the clams and many of the LPS's in the 125 adding color to the sand bed. i...

22xs (extrashallow) fiji reef crest project

OK - frags are 100% sold out and i do not plan at this time to do a lot of fragging till it is time to get ready for next years swap. in the mean time i will only be cutting frags to order and not have a build up like i did ever again. so the fiji tank is again back in commission - this time...

    my 125

well the frag swap is over and i just can't believe how great this year turned out to be for us we had so much fun - the auction was a blast i sold all my frags and scored about 10 new corals ie - i went there with no money and left with no money :) but boy did i get some new eye candy! here...

Setting up a 10 gal... lighting question

i prefer the second because of the independent switching so you can do the dusk/dawn thing with the actinics these are new and look interesting for nanos - cause they have a 15" T-5 bulb - these have not been available before as far as i know????? you could get two of these for the same price...

    FOWLR sump

here is a link to a simple wet/dry you can use to model that F&S offer http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/P ... 2004+22778 BTW even though i never recomend UV sterilizers for reef tanks they can be quite the asset on a fowler to help reduce potential pathogens

    FOWLR sump

I never recomend putting rubble in any sump or filter because it tends to collect detritus and in a tank full of live rock has little value anyway This is correct and as a matter of fact where the whole idea of bioballs and wet/dry filters came from. back in the day before live rock wet/drys...

    Toad Stool Leather

i would sew it onto a piece of live rock with a neddle and fishing line. they will be a bit fussy after being cut off the glass and may take a week or more before it starts to expand. question - did they just cut it and give it to you or did they cut it and then leave it in their tank for a...

    My poor new Watanabe Angel

vacuuming sand is a good idea just DON"T do more then half at one time. SSB should be vacuumed regularly regardless of grain size. DSB a bit more care needs to be taken but should also be maintaned with a vacuum. i have a screen layer (2" of sand above and 2" below) in my DSB to make sure i...

    VACATION

really depends on the fish - the pair of clowns i keep at school go every weekend without food and sometimes 3-4 days if we have vacation time. some fish don't need to be feed at all if there is ample food supply in the tank - my six line almost never eats - it prefers to hunt for its food, but...

    Where'd everybody go?

i'm here too i'm waiting till after the big LA swap to do an update - lost a coral last week for some uknown reason and it really bums me out, but the rest of the tank has never been better.... but summer always becomes hecktic and the tank gets neglected i have a bunch of frags ready to go...

    Algae

i don't generally quote myself but ............. do this and be patient and it should clear up - you have basic new tank syndrome combined with a shortage of mechanical filtration stir up the sand surface, blow the cyano (your "red slime algae") off the rock or better yet suck it out with a...

    Algae

need more info.......... but my first instinct is: try adding flow with heavy mech filtration - cleaning daily. diatom blooms generally clear up on their own and the cyano is a indication of heavy nutrients. suck as much of the algae out as you can during your water changes, and be patient

    My poor new Watanabe Angel

first off don't do anything that would stress it more. it is very common for fish to develop aliments during the first couple week acclimation period to a new environment. generally if the fish was healthy and the environment suitable and stress free they clear up on there own as quickly as they...
