    The hex-5

the fish are going to a new home in July. a member of my local reef club is gonna get them. they were 1/2 inch when I got them, still less than an inch. no plumbing. in hood filter that came with the hex-5 and added a 80gph powerhead for additional circulation. All is fine, as long as I...

    Red/Brown Algae on the subtrate

symp - with regards to the hermits, do they have extra shells?? They need bigger shells as they grow. with regards to the cyano, I just went through it. if it looks like the goo that slimer on ghostbuster projected only red, it could easily be red cyanobacteria, aka red slime algae. A good...

    The hex-5

So, here are some long awaited pics of my hex-5. They are taken with a cruddy cameraphone, but suck it up, it's the best I can do. Here's the tank with coral (4/07) Here's the tank before coral (12/07) Here's 2 pics of Sam I am, my YWG: So, I know the pics aren't great, but...

    Is this tank workable?

goldfish really need to stay around 70 degrees as they are a colder water fish and not your standard tropical. I'm guessing that is your fatal error.

How to startup a Nano tank?

Question #1: Yes and no... nano needs a lot more testing bc as soon as your parameters are off... the whole tank is off. Question #2: I agree with reefman. Question #3: With drip acclimation... you need to drip long enough to double the water in the bag... usually like an hour if done slow...

    Still having Algae Problems

So, will you all hate me if I tell you my water system tap water is RO/DI??? Desalinized RO/DI. I know I suck. I still don't use it though... bc phosphates can leach from the water lines. As can copper.

I started a 5 gallon nano tank and was wondering what would

as far as fish, i use it as a grow-out tank for other's in my local fish club and my LFS. i have to very tiny baby clowns and a very tiny baby yellow watchman goby... When I say tiny, nobody is over an inch long. My hermits are bigger than my fish. 2 scarlet leg and 2 blue leg. I also have 4...

I started a 5 gallon nano tank and was wondering what would

you can keep soft corals in there. zoanthids and mushrooms might be a choice. I have a hex-5 eclipse. I carved out the hood and switched the bulb for the 20 watt 50/50. It's much brighter. as far as the filtration, i use the filter pads that come with it. then i got a filter sock and added...

    Empty Snail Shells

I stopped my hermits from doing this by throwing in a bunch of extra shells. like 20 of them for 4 hermits. If a hermit is ready for an upgrade... they will kill the snails whether the shell will fit them or not. It's an act of desperation. Add a bunch of shells and see if your loss slows...

    12 Gallon cuc questions

I have 2 nassarius and 2 nerites. as soon as the food hits the top of the water... the nassarius fly fromthe back of the tank to eat. and here i thought snails were slow. ha!!! but seriously turbos do a good job. they do get big though... but i think 2 in a 12 is fine in my opinion.

    Acrylic or Glass?

Well, I loved glass until I saw a rocking chair go through a glass tank. Let me add that I am quite possibly the clumsiest person you will ever meet. Fear of tank explosion is why I will be slowly switching to acrylic, unless like my latest 29 gal....i get a glass tank for free.
