New tank with algae and coral problems

well, if the algae is brown, it's diatomic. it feeds off silicates in the water from sand and class. once it's done with that, usually 2-6 weeks... as long as water params are checked and WC's done weekly, it will literally flake off and go away.

    Water changes...........

I check ph and salinity, add buffer if needed (usually is, water is 6.0 out of the tap), get the heater going in there with a mini-jet overnight. then i recheck ph and salinity and temp b4 it goes into the tank. i use a 2 gal. plastic bucket from the dollar tree.

    Acrylic or Glass?

I dunno, I like my acrylic tank. But I also like glass. Here's what I like about my acrylic: I don't have to worry about sudden explosions like glass can do. It has little feet that allow air flow under the tank and makes it less likely to get a bottom crack. I don't have to have the ugly...

    Water changes...........

I do 1 gal. a week, but I have a 5 gal. tank. That's a 20 % weekly. I make my water in a bucket 24 hours in advance. I usually make about 2 gallons, just in case.

    Help...tank shattered.

if you transferred the live rock and the sand, you might be ok as far as cycle, and you transferred water so the water params shouldn't have changed that much. i think the extreme cold in the house is the biggest danger. i do feel for you though. how big was the custom? my stepdad...

    BC 29 newbie

i like your rock a lot. only thing i think though is that you prob need to make sure you can clean between the left side and the glass and/or that the snails can get in between there, it looks a little tight in the pic. i think your clowns will love the 2 lil caves though.

    Brown stuff

looks like diatomic algae to me. check your water parameters and if all is good, leave it alone, it will flake away in a week or so. add some hermits if it's annoying you now.

    Wall of bubbles?

here's how it was explained to me. airstone releases extra air into the water and those bubbles raise to between the water and the hood. this oxygen above the water displaces the carbon dioxide above the water forcing it back into the water. once back in the water, the co2 causes the pH in...

Please Help With Clean Up Crew!

tip for the Hermits, give them extra shells and use marine epoxy to keep any rocks or coral where they belong. My hermits love to "redecorate" my unsecured corals aka flipping them off the rocks onto the sand upside down.

    Wall of bubbles?

Walmart carries them but it would be like having an airstone in a SW i would think, could effect the PH by what I've been told.
