No personal experience, but I did like the timers and the overall look of the tank. I went with the JBJ 28 HQI only because of the Metal Halide lighting.

The tank is still relativly young. Let it mature a bit will help with quite a few issues.

Hey KoNP something you may want to do is just keep track of everything that happens AROUND your tank. I am begining to think that there may be an outside influence to some of your tank troubles. Cleaning supplies (even spraying them near your open top tank), other pets, friends *helping*...

Carbon and floss is a good place to start like Geoff said. If you have any issues then you can start to look into stuff like phosban and so on. (but a lot of people tend to a more *natural* less chemical soltion)

He he, nice! generally for dosing two part a good method is do a pretty sizable water change and then test your parameters. (yes after the water change) wait one week and then test your water parameters again. Then you will know how much you tank uses a week and then a proper dosing amount...

Share when you find one. I currently am using my Reef Keeper two as my thermometer.

Sock filters can help get floating detritus out of the water, but they need to be clean regularly. Honestly you could probably get away with little to no mechanical filtration in a tank that size. Just during your maintenance suck out all of the detritus that will collect in your sump.

I agree with Drnsee. I have stopped buying astreas and turbos for this very reason. (my crabs tend to pull the snails down fighting for the shells and almost always win)
