As far as your tank and flowerpot question goes, how is it looking today? Any better? You actually might have caused another small spike in your tank by just moving everything around and stirring up the sand, etc. Your flowerpot might be stressing from that. You might try posting a picture...
Xenia gets really nasty when it turns south. I will really foul your water. In all honesty, you might want to just remove it now if it looks like its taking a turn for the worst.

Nah, turning off your filter for less than a few hours shouldn't really affect anything in your tank. I used to leave my skimmer off for about and hour and a half after a good feeding.

My old coral banded shrimp used to molt every single time I dosed Kent's Iodine. It was pretty funny. I even started using a lot less but he still molted.
