Well I went ahead and ordered the PentAir QuietOne 4000 tonight from bigalsonline.com...they are offering free shipping for the next day or two on orders over $50, so I got the pump for like $56 shipped...not bad. So now all that is left is plumbing and moving the contents of the existing 16g over to the 20L.

I am beginning to contemplate the livestock and I think I am looking into a zoanthus-dominant tank along with LPS and DEFINITELY a clam or two...probably one of these ultra grade corceas with the tan and blue...

I saw this one in person over the weekend and this picture does it NO justice.

Fish-wise, i am planning on a true percula, a sixline wrasse and possible a goby/shrimp pair.

I want this tank to be an eye-catcher, so I am planning on a black background along with a sandbed that is predominantly black sand mixed with white sand...so ~90% black and 10% white sand. I like the black sand but dont like the detritus that shows up like a sore thumb...so hopefully this will help to cover that up. I am going to a LFS that sells the sand loose, so I will go and mix a small amount and see exactly what it looks like.

definitely more posts soon to come.

and also he is selling your clam at $35 now you should get it.....

If i see one anywere ill let you know and then i know you could think something to have a top (just a glass with rubber around it and a handle??) and then after what you said "glass top seems bla bla" i didnt get that part of the fuge????

The part about the fuge means that I can have a full glass top on the display tank and still have adequate gas exchange because of the open fuge.

I wont be ready for a clown...or any other fish for that matter./..for several weeks after I set up the tank...but do keep an eye out for me. I already talked to reef collection about them, so I may be able to get on from them.

We'll see....those yashas are pricey. I think I may just have a couple exotic clowns and a six line or something like that. maybe a small citron clown goby.

We'll see....I have to finish the tank still!!!

i know what you mean about price but if i new that i was gonna get some money at my b-day ill never bouth the firefish so i could get the pair.... tomorrow ill get myself 2 randall's shimps ...one for yellow watchman goby and the other one for???? see how they react .... should i put one randall close to watchman cave so they mate or let them be and let them find him????

but the fish you mentioned sounds like a plan.... but just an observation and what i heard ... citron clowns goby lately they are not doing well they tend to die fast or instantly cause of the chemical that they use to catch them... and i've seen that on the LFS the yellow ones tend to die alot......>>> but maybe is not true .... and well i did try before adding firefish i got one died instantly then went for guarantee and place him then 3 days later the belly shrink (sorry i have bad spelling) and then it die .... but anyways good look any pics of your progress in your tank or still getting the parts???

overflows

Here are my overflows that I constructed today. I was able to figure out a way to use 2" ABS elbows and attach them to 1" PVC. This will allow me more linear surface for overflow than the 1" PVC elbow...plus they are black so they dont stand out as much...

I cut the grooves in them to help with the high flow that they will be required to handle...I also plan on using a coarse plastic screen to help prevent my fishes from having a day at Wild Rivers!! I wont know exactly how they work till i set up the pump and get it running. I am not expecting all the flow from being able to go through the grooves...I expect some of the flow to go over the top as well.

update

Little bit of an update... My pump came in yesterday...its pretty nice.

I also plumbed my manifold return last night including the SCWD. I think it turned out pretty well. It looks rather bulky and intrusive from the top, but from the front you cannot see anything..kinda cool. All that is really left is to purchase and add the glass baffles for the fuge, plumb in the pump, do a fresh water test, and if everything is good to go, transfer everything over.

Hopefully by the end of this weekend I will have pics of this thing in action.

Jesse,

I love how you've been carefully putting so much thought into this project, and all I can say it's one of the nicest and most efficient setups I've ever seen. Keep up the good work man, this tanks is just too sweet.

Thanks guys. I HAVE put alot of thhought and research into this tank...I just hope that it turns out okay. I just spraypainted the back a royal blue tonight, I think that it turned out pretty well. I was going to go black, but thhought that it would be too much black being that the stand is black, the canopy is black, the silicone in the tank is black...we'll see.

I am officially done with the setup...I just have to transfer all the stuff from my 16 over to the new 20L.

One concern i have is that the QuietOne that I bought is making a rattling sound...not nearly as quiet as it should be...any suggestions?

Here are some pics...
