Andre,

Can you also include a mini bio on your filtration system; label each item and let us know what powers what etc?

Like a museum, each snap shot has a story...

Mike G

P.S
How about letting us know future plans on equipment, critters etc?

SUMMARY:

I plan to keep adding a nice variety of soft corals, zoos, mushrooms and maybe a clam and some easy to keep SPS, until the day my tank is mature and I have enough cash to get a good calcium reactor.

As far as fish and inverts, for now I want to keep a more peaceful environment without too much traffic and bio-load. I currently have six fish, and I'm planning to add a few more... I've been looking for a nice Fairy Wrasse, Fire fish, and a few Gobies and Blennies.

I'm trying to keep it simple at the beginning, and all I want is a healthy mature tank, where the critters I'm keeping are getting the proper care they need to thrive, and not only survive.

Ed,

It was a lot of fun taking the time to create this graphic, but the main reason for the chart, is to make my life a little easier when I need to plug, unplug, and configure devices.
There is just too many plugs and wires, and this way I can quickly visualize and identity, which channel controls each device.

I had the opportunity to enjoy and care for my nano tank and I loved the fact that a simple major water change could make such great impact on the inhabitants and correct the water parameters. Unfortunately larger tanks don't have that flexibility, so carefully planning ahead and assembling an efficient filtration system is necessary to maintain good water quality, without having to rely too much on water changes.

Let the fishing season begin

My brother called me just to get my attention to this post, and this was why, hahaha

Good Job Aromano!

I agree this pic needs to go to nano-reef or even reef central, haha (jus kiddin')

Wow,

The ich is really gone, that blue tang looks super healthy as do your other fish... How is your phosphates? Has your reactor caught up yet?

Thank God the ich problem is under control now. Every few days the blue tang appears with one or two spots, but it's far from the epidemic stage now. ;-)

My phosphates are reading 0.03 and the reactors seem to be helping a lot. The tangs also seem to really do a good job helping to keep the algae under control. The main factor for the nuisance algae growth is new LR that was introduced to the tank, which keeps adding a massive amount of nutrients in the water. It will take a few months, but slowly things seem to be getting more stable.

Okay,

That makes sense with the edition of new live rock. I didn't know you had added some new pieces. Always try to get ultra cured premium live rock for those last new pieces.

As you are doing the finishing touches you want the best rocks as they are the most seen pieces.

My six tangs andre, really keep my rock under control as do 3 emerald crabs and about a dozen snails that have reproduced tiny babies everywhere.

Your phos are at a very good level, mine are at .03 as well. Ever considering getting some Mexican snails to go at that algae?

They will do wonders as they did to mine...

That powder blue tang is my favorite and I'm glad he joined the algae control troop. ;-) Is he recovering fine from the ich?

I haven't added any new LR pieces in three months now, but at first I introduced 115 lb. of cured Caribbean live rock and let it cycle for a month before transferring the live stock to the tank. I think those pieces are still leaching nutrients in the water.

That is so awesome that your snails are breeding in captivity. How does it work, do they born with a tiny shell and the shell grows as they grow?

Mexican Turbo Snail are indeed really good algae eaters. Funny that you mentioned, cause I pre-ordered a few and should be arriving in my LFS next week.

Andre,

Like I said before, we think a like and maybe it's because we have the same size tanks...

Anyway, the snails lay these oval shaped eggs every where, on glass on live rock on my coco worms tube....

Then in about two weeks I see these really really small snails everywhere, the size of a pin top. They grow and as they grow so does the shell, I have lots of tiny babies cleaning the rocks everywhere.

There is no algae left, that's how good these guys are and my tangs. I think they will die as soon as the food is depleated maybe just a couple will stay a live.

It's really neat to see the success of breeding in captivity...

I'm just not sure which snails are the fathers???

MG

P.S
It's time for you to add a new tang to your tank; get one that scrapes the rocks, bristle tooth tomini or kole or cheveron... Many to choose from and you have the space... It will do wonders on all that algae....

Thank you so much for all the comments guys.

With the ich under control, now the fish have been very happy and the next step is to keep fighting the nuisance algae. Tomorrow I'll be picking up some Mexican Turbo Snails, and I have my eyes opened for a bristle tooth tang if I can find a nice healthy one. I'll keep you guys posted with the updates...

P.S. Thanks for sharing the breeding in captivity snail experience Mike. That is so awesome.
