JbJ has a 150w for under $200 w/o shipping. Even still, i'm cracking my self
up because of the thought on purchasing a mh for a small tank. Don't get me wrong i'm buying one myself, but when I had 84w on my 40g a decade ago I thought it was the shiznit.

definitely go with the aquamedic. Not to knock the asian stuff but german engineering is in a different league... at least in regard to lighting. You'll be happy you did... I promise you that.

allright, got my light yesterday, had a little problem with it. The guys building the light forgot to slide the bulb in all the way.
It looks pretty good, little bit of blue in it, we'll see how it works.

Ed,

I will see if I can find the link for the guy that sells them but I have heard nothing but good things about his products but he makes a 70w retro DE MH kit its pretty resonably priced I think its like around 130 shipped like I said I will see I can find the link for you.

That 70 watt kit is nice. Very good quality.

Dont be afraid of too much light though with the 150watt. I had the same tank as you (NanoCube 12) with nothing but zoos and rics with a 70 watt 14k metal halide and I'm telling you, I wished every day I had gone with a 150watt. Before the 70 watt metal halide it had 4 x 24 watt PC's. I dont know... You have an awesome tank Eddy. I just want to help you get the most out of it. Aside from IMO being the ideal light for your tank they look really classy.

Ok I'm done selling now

Your my boy Mike!

I love your light Jesse... You really did a good job and I'm sure anything you guys put together will be very nice. But honestly it just doesnt make sense when I'm seeing Mike bolding throwing a 150watter above his 6 gallon. Considering the relatively close cost of both options... GO BIG!!! As soon as I can head over there my little bro and I will be hanging a 400 watt halide over his 20 long. Light = Good! The more the better. As long as the water temp isnt tremendously effected I have always seen better results by going bigger. I say this very humbly but I have had probably 10 different tanks over the years and had probably almost double that in different lighting systems. The lesson I have learned in regard to halide lighting is go as big as you can without boiling your tank.

I certainly trust you both to come up with something great but please consider my humble experience before making a decision.

Oh and if you guys do stick with the 70 watt plan, I have a brand new piece of UV glass made for that exact system over in the equipment flea market. I'd be happy to donate it to the cause. I'm anxious to see Eddy's upgrade regardless of what light is chosen in the end. :)

Thx for the offer RIPCURRENT and well this project is gonna take some time i think....not sure when we are gonna have upgrades and well i was thinking like you 2 about the MH but also keep in mind too much watt might cause my zoas to bleach.... and we dont want that ..... so still thinking of it ....but is like this stilll 70 watts plus 2 24w pc (65%) and aquamedics fixture (35%) so is a though one.... see what we make with reef and i trust him cause the change on his zoas wow 100% more color than before ......and i was noticing tooo not sure but some zoas that were in top of jesses seem tha they were bleaching alitte not sure cause too close to MH or something??? so that put me thinking i dont want that to happen if is that the case and he has only 70w ... imagine what a 150 will do to my smaller tank.... everything willl be crystal white ooohh no no more eagle eyes just white   so i dont know ..... upgrades is a hard thing to do decisions decisions and well i want to make the right one cause MH upgrade and thats it no more for me happy with my tank just need my MH fix cause i want my zoas to pop like JESSES zoas man YOU GUYS YOU SHOULD SEE THE ZOAS OF JESSE DOES COLOR AMAZING NEVER SEEN ZOAS LIKE THAT NOT EVEN IN PICTURES AND WHEN YOU GET SOMETHING COLOR FULL IN PERSON ZOAS ARE DARKER THAN IN PICS BUT JESSES WOW   THATS WHY IM ALWAYS after jesses frags lol........

so guys ......i think this project is gonna be really longggggggggg..... need to make right choice....

As long as you acclimate the zoas properly to the MH, you wont have bleaching. And as long as you have overhangs and such that you can put frags like blues and others that prefer a shaded area, than the zoas would be fine with a 150 watter. I also remember seeing somewhere that Mike plans on having SPS frags in his tank... eddie has plans fgor a zoa-dominant tank. The 150 watter would be a much easier option.

Eddie, if you are worried about your zoas bleaching, dont worry. Nothing will bleach out. That is caused by improper UV filtering and/or improper acclimation. The frag you recieved from me may have been lighter because those couple of polyps were'nt getting direct light. I have not lost ANY color in ANY of my zoas no matter how close they get to the MH (except the blues which i moved to the end of the tank away from the MH.)

I do think that 400 watts over a 12" deep tank is overkill though... i just have to say that. 250 is understandable though.

Eddie. I know i keep goin back and forth on this, but there will be nothing wrong with a 150 watt 20,000k MH over your tank. You will just have to hang it higher in the beginning and slowly lower it. Or use pieces of window screen over the top and remove a layer every week or so. But you will have to do this with any MH that you add to your tank.

Keep this in mind too. Your MAIN reseaon for doing this upgrade is because you see the color change that takes place when I take a frag from you and put it in my tank. But consider this. there are frags from my tank that I can give to you that will change and look more attractive in your tank. It all depends on the color variation and what kind of lightin the zoas have become accustomed to.

Just rambling now,

Jesse
