I do think that 400 watts over a 12" deep tank is overkill though... i just have to say that. 250 is understandable though.
We'll never know until we try it, right?

A friend of mine has a 400 watt halide with 2 32 PC actinics hanging over his 26 gallon. The growth and color of his corals are out of control. That's where many of my frags have come from and the motivation for this upgrade. We'll see though. Different tank, could produce totally different results.

take your time ed - it is a big decision...........
the problem here as i see it is with the PC lighting, i do not like PC's even though i use them on several tanks of mine because sometimes in the case of a nano tank (and others) they are your only option because of size/price constraints. i like jesse's light it is similar to my figi combination with a 175MH and 2 32W PC actinics - and my tank is only 12 inches deep remember. your PC system will not color zoas up like jesse's does!
the bottom line is that your zoas will not pop under a strickly PC system, i have some in a 20g with 130W of PC (now they are in a 10g with the same light and results) and sure they have color but it don't jump out at you. MH is about your only option to get a lot of light on a small tank - so now how big should you go is the question?????????
personally i would go with the 150 20K no PC's and here is why........the animals we call zoas are a huge group and even though we treat them like they are all the same they have different needs. a stand alone MH system will create shadow zones in your tank where you can put some lower light wanting critters and bright areas where you can put the light lovers. it will give you nice glitter lines and the ocean look effect. and 20 K is not very "bright" to begin with and as i said earlier the PAR on a 20K is very low and to get the asthetics your looking for with the usable light your corals need: you have to go bigger, a 70W may not get you there.
personal experience here - that light on my figi - i don't like! its just not what i'm looking for....so now i have to save up 200$ because i'm going to go 250W SE 14K hamilton on that tank! if i would of went bigger to begin with i would of saved myself money in the long run.........

i have 150 watts over my 5 gallon and my previously brown/gray zoas have developed a blue and green center with green skirts... colors i NEVER saw when i had 36watts of pc...

On a side note, has everyone seen the icon that Ripcurrent is using??? Well, I was thinking that as he adds the new 400 watt monster to his brothers tank, his little brother is going to have that expression; INCOMING!!!

No matter how many times I look at that icon, I have to laugh, that baby looks so funny with helmet and expression on his face...
