    Green Star Polyps not opening

I too have found them to be moody for no reason. I have a VERY healthy colony of GSP that for no reason that i can tell will close up for a 3 or 4 day period. then, next thing you know, they are fully extended. Jesse

Taking on a bigger project.... Please give ideas.

100% silicone should work. Vinegar and a razor blade. Krylon fusion... they make a nice blue (that is what i used) and also a black. Just lay the tank on it's face so that the back is flat and spray away... Jesse

    150W 20000K BULB

I would go with the Aqu medic... great fixture, especially at that price... If it turns out that you want it to look more like your nano, I'm sure you can get some heat resistant spray paint (like for a BBQ) and paint it black...very easy. They are all good fixtures though, but like i think...

    Zoanthid colony closed?

It is pretty common... give it some time. While you are waiting, you may take a look around the colony for any irritants like bristleworms, aiptasia, etc... Jesse p.s. How are your water parameters?

    Converted AC500 to Refugiums

I have to agree with this 100% The benefits of the HOB fuge cannot match the benefits of a good skimmer. Jesse

    HOB or sump ???

It is obvious that the more water that you have, the more stable the tank will be. A HOB filter just cannot give you the same volume as a sump. Plus, most macros, especially cheato, prefer high-flow areas with lots of light (this is if you wanted to incorporate a refugium)... again, HOB...

    hydrometers...

Those floating hydrometers that skip mentioned are an exellent suggestion.. there is one that is made by Tropic Marin that can be bought for less than $30 as is more accurate than a hydrometer... +-0.0005 SG! Jesse

12g NANO LIGHT UPGRADE (70w vrs 150w this time) 05.04.06

That is a good fixture... the 20,000k AB bulb is a good bulb. I couldnt find anywhere that sold it any cheaper. You may want to check out this one too... good price for this fixture... http://www.hellolights.com/15hqicoaqpep.html This one is very good as well... just add the $55 for the...

    a new forum suggestion

I REALLY LIKE THIS IDEA! And not just because I was one of the mentioned members, but because of your comment about "prefab" kits being seen as one of the only ways. I think that highlighting some various systems is a GREAT idea! As I read your post, the first thing to pop into my head was...

    Upgrade for My 6g Nano?

A 6 gal with only 18 watts isnt going to get very good color out of the zoas. they may brown out a little in order get more out of the lighting. Jesse

    hydrometers...

I have to agree with rOOnmac... hydrometers are not to be taken as the one and only means for SG measurement. I have a hydrometer that I have been using for 2.5 years and it is consistantly .003-.005 higher than a refractometer. Be careful, back up your readings with a refractometer... either...

    New Chapter. 56 RR.

Intead of making a custom acrylic sump, have you considered going with, say, a 40g breeder? You could just build the stand around it. I would maybe reconsider the open-air stand though... sometimes it is nice having all the "guts" hidden away, you know? Jesse

    My first nano!

Those worms that you described, are they bristleworms? The snails could have also starved, but i dont think that is likely for a new tank... there is usually plenty to eat. Jesse

    pH problem

pH fluctuates, but it also takes around 24 hours after adding it in order for it to show up on a test. I would use a product like Kent's Superbuffer-dKH to help raise your pH and alkalinity...BTW, what is you alk? You add the Ca using a slow drip to allow for proper dissolving... otherwise...
