    Book Recommendations

One of the most important item to have in the aquarium hobby is a book (or 2 or 6) The more the better. There are some books that I've come across which I thought were pretty good and figured I'd recommend em. The Reef Aquarium vol 1 &2 - Delbeek and Sprung The Modern Reef Aquarium vol 1-4 -...

i think you might be confused as to the order jennie. Ammonia -> Nitrite -> Nitrate. dave just has them switched on his post. The only thing that might be a little weird is having ammonia but no nitrite, but there really isnt much ammonia there, so it looks about right. By the way dave, you...

    Maybe add a help discussion

I just recently discovered your forum and like what i see. I Just thought I'd throw an idea out there for consideration. Maybe a Help discussion for questions concerning problems with the tank, inhabitants, etc.] Also, now that i think about it, maybe a discussion devoted to corals as well.

    Hey im new here

Sounds like a good start, you may want to consider an upgrade in lighting. I recommend the 15" 32 watt smartlite retro fit. I bought mine at http://www.drsfostersmith.com At the time it was on sale for $40. It is definitely worth it, bumping the tank to 4.67 watts/ gallon. Just an option...

    Newbie lighting

I also would have to recommend PC lighting on your tank. I really dont think there is a need for MH lighting on small tanks. MH produces way too much heat, so you'd really have to build a custom canopy or something to keep the lights away from the surface of the water. you would also have the...

    Brown algae on live rock

Brown algea is perfectly normal for a new tank, and it usually means the tank is about done being cycled. The brown will probably turn into green algae. For an 8 gallon tank i would look into the following clean up crew: 1 Trochus Snail 3 Nassarius Snails 3 Cerith Snails 2 scarlet hermits...
