Want to start a SW tank

It just depends on how much space you have to play with in front of the eclipse filtration pan in the back of the hood. I cut mine out so that I could hang a larger filter and a skimmer off the back of the tank. If you have space I'd say something like this...

Want to start a SW tank

1st question would be have you ever medicated the 12 gal tank? Many freshwater fish meds include copper. This can be absorbed by the silicone and leach back out into salt water. Most saltwater inverts have a very low tolerence for copper. If it was a 75 gallon tank I'd say no sweat, but with...

Corals for a 15gal, suggestions please.

Zoos don't take up much space, and they'll do ok under low light conditions. You probably won't see much growth from them though because they actually prefer higher lighting. Most mushrooms will do fine without much light. Ricordias however prefer a bit more light than most other mushrooms...

Did you end up picking it up?

    nano issue of Coral magazine.

The old owner sold it to one of his employees. The sign no longer says Neptunes. Which is why I called it the store that used to be neptunes. The new guy got a LOT of suggestions from the local Houston reef club, and seems to be trying to get a bit more saltwater stuff in with more reasonable...

    nano issue of Coral magazine.

For the Houston members I thought I'd mention that I saw a copy of the Coral Magazine that focused on nanos for sale at what used to be Neptunes Garden on 45S. This issue was the 1st or 2nd issue, and is out of print now. It was on the wall next to the register and they wanted $10 for it...

    Water flow in 'fuges

Water movement shouldn't be a problem...You just need to glue some baffles into the tank to separate the areas. Here's a link that has some decent pics of what one of the guys here in town did. http://www.mcafoose.org/75gal.htm

    Water Temp

I haven't heard of a decent way to calculate how much a particular sized fan will cool things off. I think it's going to vary a great deal based on the types and makers of fans. I'd try sending someone here an email asking if they have any rough ideas. Or maybe try to find some over-clocking...

    My living room.

Actually it isn't that bad money wise. Even if my plan to rotate through several starfish doesn't work, and I have to buy them a new one each time I can get a chocolate chip star for $5-$8, and only need to give a pair of them one every 10 days or so. Now that it looks like I'm down to one...

Nothing. That's all they eat. VERY specialized predators. I'm not sure how well they're working out. The smaller one seems to have disappeared. It's been a bit over 24hrs since I saw it, and I've been able to find the other one the whole time. The dwarf lionfish's stomach isn't rounded...

    New Discovery

Ofoto doesn't allow you to link to the images you have posted on their site. I just tried it out with one of my ofoto albums. You can share your album with individuals, but as far as I could see there was no way to make the pics postable on a web board. Try http://www.photobucket.com...

    Fish?

I had a neon, (or arabian) dottyback for awhile that I really liked. His color was spectacular and he had a very inquisitive attitude. Unfortunately he got fairly aggressive so I had to trap him out. Maybe a small fairy wrasse. Although most wrasses seem to like a sandbed, the BB may not...

    LR Question

Rock will definitely become re-colonized with bacteria. It'll just be awhile before it's much of a benefit. I can't really think of a decent way to determine how long it would take though. If it were me, and since it's a nano, I'd ask around and see if anyone with a large tank would be...

    Fish?

The Fu Manchu is probably not a good idea. In that small a tank with a heavy current I think it'll have a hard time being blown around. I've had both a regular dwarf, and a fuzzy dwarf, and neither seemed to like it much near the high current portions of the tank they were in. If you can find...
