Pic of the week ---- Crabs

Yeah, it's an electric blue leg hermit, I had it for over 2yrs. It just recently croaked. I agree the normal mini blue leg hermits do a much better job of keeping things clean.

    Newbie lighting

I agree that you can keep clams, and sps under the 96w PC lights. However like all PC lamps they tend to start losing their full effectiveness after about 6 months. Most people don't really notice it much because they're not trying to keep light-hungry livestock under PC's, but from things...

    Maxima Clam

PC lights lose their effectiveness quite a bit after 6 months. The specs say they're good for about a year, but from many things I've read on lots of boards, folks have found that they start degrading after about 6 months. If you aren't trying to keep clams, anemones, SPS, or anything else...

    Coral Banded Shrimp

Mine was pretty cool for several months, then it became agressive. It got at least one cleaner shrimp, and I saw it attempt to get a few fish. I had small fish just go missing, as well as sexy shrimp, and a blood shrimp and attributed it all to the CBS. Mine was also fairly shy, and totally...

34 Litigation Support Email searching/tracking/blah,blah,blah. How about pics of us? Here's me between my wife and our best friend. (My wife Shannen is on right side, with shorter hair.) Here's one of me spinning fire on the beach.

my first reef tank, 10g 8 months old

Amphipods and copepods are different critters. They belong to different families. If you look around in your tank with a flashlight after it's been dark for a couple hours look in low-flow nooks and crannies, if you see what looks like nearly microscopic swarms of gnats those are copepods...

    Maxima Clam

You don't glue them on. They have a 'foot' that they grab onto the rockwork with. There are rock-dwelling clams and substrate-dwelling clams. Try clamsdirect.com for the most comprehensive and up-to-date info on clams. As for the phyto, you can't necessarily tell by color whether it's any...

    Battery Backup

I've heard of folks using battery backups to run powerheads and an bubbler air pump. This tends to use less electricity. I'd certainly write the guy and see how easy it is to convert the backup so it uses a car battery.

    Maxima Clam

Just be sure to put it as high up in the rockwork as you can. Maximas and Croceas are both pretty light-needy, so you want to get it as close to the lights as possible. If you're light is more than 6 months old you need to get a new bulb before you put the clam in, and then make sure to change...

    Getting Back to Marine

No sweat. I'm on RC, Nano-reef.com, reefs.org, tonmo.com, maast.org, and here. My scrn name is incysor on all of them, so it'd be pretty easy to come across a post by me somplace other than here. B

    hippo clam under pc's?

Nope. I'm one of the few people you'll find that will argue the MH requirements of all clams, and I don't think that'll be enough light for it. Generally if you ask on any board about light requirements for clams everyone hollers MH. I think there are ways to keep them under PC's or T-5's or...

Modified 12 Gallon JBJ Nano Tank Pics

The smaller the clam is the more dependent it is on phyto for fuel. If it's under 2" be sure to feed very regularly, and I'd go with DT's as your phytoplankton source. It's much better for your clams than the dead or freeze-dried stuff. Also keep it as close to the lights as possible. B

    Getting Back to Marine

Nope. I've registered at lots of boards that I'm not really very active on. I double-checked to see if I was registered there, and they don't have an 'incysor' registered. Brian

    Getting Back to Marine

No. If you leave the lights off, you'll have much less nuisance algae blooms. There are no benefits to having the lights on during the cycle whatsoever.

Modified 12 Gallon JBJ Nano Tank Pics

How long have you had your elegance? They're one of my favorite corals, but I've never gotten one because so many people seem to have problems with them. I think the crocea will be fine under your light, but I'd be sure to chane your PC bulbs every 6-8months instead of annually. Your pics are...

Pic of the week --- Interaction

I had one hitch hike in on a great mushroom rock when I had the 55 set up. It stayed in one hole, and didn't seem interested in the rest of the tank, and I couldn't see it too well, so I wasn't concerned. Then one day I walked by the tank and my cleaner shrimp was stuck butt-first in the hole...

    CT Nano Reefer's 12g JBJ

Very pretty tank. Do you have any fish in the tank other than the 3 clowns? Speaking of those 3, do they get along ok? My understanding is that 3 was a bad idea cause 2 would likely pair off and beat up the 3rd.
