Pic of the week --- Coral feeding

I love djConn's pic of the mushroom all folded up. I like how Jennie's candy is framed by all the fan worms. B

I just saw the new nanocube 24 this weekend. It looked pretty sweet. Anyone thinking about getting one?

    Acclimation - fish vs. inverts

One other thing...If you're acclimating fish that you got out of an fish-only system, that you think might be medicated. Put as little of that water in your tank as you can manage. I usually dump 1/2-3/4 of the LFS water out immediately. I leave just enough water so the fish can swim. Then I...

    My first tank

Re: i saw a newer design pico The only one's I've seen by Red Sea that are even close to what you're describing are glass tanks. One has wavy front/back panels. The other one has straight front and back panels, but the bottom panel is wavy. B

Electric Blue Hermit Crab (dead or alive??)

One of the first things I had in my 55 was a coral banded shrimp. It molted about 2 days after I put it in. Me and the wife were both totally new to this, and she called me at work to tell me that the shrimp had died. Bummer. I got home later that day and I go look at the tank and it sure...

    # of crabs/snails

Re: emerald crags.. I didn't have any of these guys for the first 2yrs I had the tanks set up. I read that they can get agessive once they get larger, so I just skipped them. Then I bought a bunch of rock from a hobbyist that was moving and it had some bubble algae on it. After I scrubbed...

    fire shrimp

Sorry, work has kept me busy this morning. Aquatic World has more stock, but I have ended up buying more stuff from B&B. They seem to get stuff in that other's don't have, and their prices are a bit better. B

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

 Actually I saw this method in CORAL magazine. And it looks VERY easy. The only problem I have with it is most people don't have ready access to these needles. I looked around a bit and couldn't find any. I haven't a clue where the local medical supply companies are, or if they'd...

    400 post....

 Jeeze...I had no idea....It just means I talk to darn much. I really don't pay much attention to these types of things...I was having a hard time getting my avatar on RC the other day, and was getting very frustrated. I'd probably read that you have to have 100+ posts before you...

    Acclimation - fish vs. inverts

Hmm...I've never heard this. Many inverts DO require a slower acclimation. However if you're acclimating correctly with a drip line, it's fine for both inverts and fish. Inverts like starfish, and anemones really shouldn't be exposed to air, which fish, crabs, snails will tolerate fine as...

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

Yep, that's pretty much the way I would do it. People sew them on to the rock but that seems more difficult to me.

Nano pics update (12.19.04) *nice pics*

Re: one more question... If you can put a jar over it to keep it from getting blown around then it should attach to the rock just fine. You can also take a needle and thread and kinda sew it onto the rock. After it's attached you just snip the thread.

    # of crabs/snails

Your LFS is a friggin rip off. Unless these are the electric blue legged guys they shouldn't be more than $1-$2 each. Scarlet legged one's should be about $3. Try these folks, they're great to deal with, and have great prices. http://keyscritters.com/ You mention a guy named Nate a...

    # of crabs/snails

I've probably got over 200 between my two main tanks. I've also got urchins, snails of different varieties, starfish. I really do mostly go by how the tank looks. If I start getting a lot of buildup on the glass I get some snails, if I've got stuff on the sandbed or on the rocks I get some...

    fire shrimp

Don't sweat the shrimp price. I've never had anyone at AW come down on any price that's listed on the tank. Needing the blenny, having the coupon, and it being 6:30, was my main impetus for going to them. The shrimp would have just been a nice bonus. This is a thread that posted awhile...

Electric Blue Hermit Crab (dead or alive??)

Some hermits seem to be better than others. The larger ones don't seem as good as the smaller ones. Once I see the sand bed looking grimy I just put some mini blue-leg ones in and before you know it the sandbed looks clean again. Of course I could just not be lazy and vacuum the top layer off...

    New canopy.

75g & 40g plumbed together. 25g predator tank, (dwarf lion, and small blue-spot puffer). Wife's 10g nano. and a 10g that's for cultivating amphipods. It doesn't have anything in it but LR rubble, algae, a couple small hermits and some macro. B

Phischy's Project PtIII: Actually have corals!

What color Ric? My orange/pink ones seem to like the light, but my bright neon green ones seeme to prefer it a bit shadier. Usually frogspawn will come out fairly quickly unless it's in a real high-flow area, then it may stay contracted.

    fire shrimp

I went over to Aquarium World last night, partially because $20 for fire shrimp is a good price for this town. I also had a 20% off coupon, and needed a lawnmower blenny. They only had 2 fire shrimp and they were $29ea. This is about $4 more than most other places in town, so I skipped em...
