Pico transitioned to JBJ 6 gallon...a new beginning

I followed the links you've got and I suspect that they're not using the correct name for this shrimp. "Spiny shrimp", is nearly as generic as "shrimp". It just isn't a proper name. The scientific name is also wrong. When you run it you only get the links to those two pages, (both on the...

    transfering a tank

You may get a small cycle from die-off with the move, even though it's a mature tank. I'd use about half of her tank water and half fresh saltwater. Then have enough saltwater made up to be able to do a couple large, (25%-50%), water changes during the following week. I'd also test every...

    Hello..New Here

Morning...Sorry I haven't been on as much the last couple days. Welcome to the site. Your setup sounds fine, and it sounds like you know what you're doing. As long as you're doing regular water changes I wouldn't worry too much about a skimmer. Lots of folks on here don't use them. As long...

    Transporting Shrimp Long Distance

As long as you get the bottle filled with oxygen it should be fine. Water changes should be unnecessary. B

    New Orleans trip.

Pretty much the same. Some things were a bit more expensive, some things a bit cheaper. I bought a pearly jawfish for $21. A pom-pom crab for $12, and two light green ricordia polyps for $8 a piece. B

Pico transitioned to JBJ 6 gallon...a new beginning

I'd try target feeding the yuma. Just a little cyclopeze or golden pearls. I'd try to keep a bit of iodine in your system as well. It certainly looks better than it did. I had my pink brain nearly bleach out all the way like that once. I moved it down further in the tank and it totally...

    I have a new tank!

It's a red headed or red head goby. Gobiosoma puncticulatus I've had three of them now...Great reef-safe fish. I los the first one in the move. Second one was in my nano at work, until a mushroom ate it. Third one is in my 75g at home. B http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod ...

    Is it ich?

Exactly. No it doesn't harm anything. Fresh garlic is what's needed. Evidently the active compounds break down fairly quickly so the kent garlic stuff isn't particularly effective. B

    Is it ich?

Ich isn't necessarily deadly. There are lots of fish that are more prone to it than others, and will have continual outbreaks of it. In most systems it's pretty much impossible to totally eradicate it from your tank, because part of the life cycle of the parasite is sand/rock dwelling...

What are the ABC's of starting a nano tank?

Until you test your tank and all your water parameters have dropped to zero adding a clown would be a bad idea. Anemones are a no-no unless your tank has been up for 6 months to a year. It gives your tank time to completely stabilize, and you time to get get the experience needed to keep them...

    Yellow Cucumber

There's plenty of debate about it. Especially in the SPS circles. Normally I'd say if you've got things set up properly, and are not medicating the tank, and don't have animals that are known for releasing toxic chemicals, or suspected of releasing chemicals, then I don't think it's necessary...

Carbon helps to trap/remove chemicals from your system...This includes the chemicals that we don't test for....Lots of critters in our system use chemical warfare against their neighbors...Sea Apples, cucumbers, anemones, box fish, are just some off the top of my head. B

    Mike's new Pico....

I've got one on my main system at home. It think they're great. Only improvement I can think of would be an auto shut off on them...Like if they'd go off after 2mins of display that would be perfect. B
