    Glowing Ball

At this stage it's pretty much impossible to ID. It could be lots of corals/mushrooms. B

    Intergrated Chiller Assist...

You don't need a protein skimmer, you need a surface skimmer. This is the easiest mod I've seen. It's here. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/showthr ... sette+tape B

    shrimp type

Anything other than a bumblebee, or harlequin pretty much. I'd stay away from sauron shrimp as well. I've heard, but haven't been able to confirm that they will get agressive and go after all your other inverts. This is just hearsay as far as I'm concerned though. Sexy, skunk cleaner...

    Tank Progress Phase 2

Just pull it out and work in the air as quickly as you can. If it starts taking several mintues then you want to try to move to a shallow bucket or something so the polyps can stay submerged in saltwater for as much of the process as possible. B

    Rock on Sand question

You don't want sand blown up onto your LR. If you see this just take a turkey baster and 'blow' it back off of your LR. This is because the sand inhibits flow to the LR. This is unavoidable on the bottom of LR or the LR that corals come on. Don't worry about it. Just place the button polyps...

    Tank Progress Phase 2

Yep, you'll have to remove it. Easiest way is to find a place where the mat isn't really attached and slowly peel it back from there. You can use a razor blade to start it, and help it along. B

Sometimes I take pics of things besides my tanks.

Thanks. I was fairly happy with the shot. It would have been better if I had a work light, or if I could have got them to go outside, but it's close to what I was hoping for. B

    another "newbie questions" post

here are my questions: 1. i have an extra 5 gallon Top Fin Aquascene tank without a hood or lid. should i use it as a fuge? if so, what is involved in doing that? Yes you could. However you'll either have to drill the tank, or do some extensive cutting and DIY on the canopy. For what...

    Aquariumgirl's Nano Tank

Very nice. I agree with the others, the aquascaping is great. B

    my new star

I'd keep a close eye on it. These guys are known to eat corals. I don't know whether mushrooms, or the particular species of mushrooms you have are on the diet, but I'd be wary of it myself. B

Anyone have any experience with Scissortail Goby?

Everything in the description on your link sounds accurate to me. Here's another article. All the dartfish are also known jumpers. It's not much of a concern with a nano cube though, unless you leave the top open for any period of time unattended. B...

    Tank Progress Phase 2

No it's not toxic. It was orginally developed as a surgical glue. It's safe for aquarium use. I have heard that if you use a lot of the liquid in a small tank with a skimmer that it can make the skimmer go crazy for a bit, but other than that it's as safe as can be. B

    baby brittle star born :)

Those are amazing pics. I love the mini brittle stars in my tanks. They're not the easiest thing in the tank to get good pics of though. Awesome job! B

    sump design

This has some good pics. The water is going to be level with whichever divider next to your LR is tallest. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-01/gt/ I'm trying to find some other good pics of DIY fuges. B

    Tank Progress Phase 2

Not at all. Take the GSP out of the tank. Pat the back of it dry with a towel, and squeeze a bunch of gel onto it, then quickly press it against the area you want it to be glued to. You may have to hold it there for 2-3 mins, but that should do it. B

    sump design

You're back flow should be controlled with siphon break holes, so you'd only get a small amount of water draining back into the fuge. Most of the ones I've seen are at least 3/4 of the height of the tank. I'd ask Niko5 over on MARSH, he's built a ton of them. He may have even converted a 10g...

Difference Between Basic 12gal Nano and DX

Nope. It won't help anything, and may remove some of the bacteria you're trying to culture, thereby lengthening your cycle. Glad you'll get the new canopy soon. B

    sump design

So you only want the water to be 5" high over the LR? That seems shallow to me. You can use an external pump like that if you Have a T at the top as the plumbing comes over the side so that you can prime the pump. B
