    I'm new, hows my plan

You can add the live rock and sand at anytime. Then you'll have to test your water every few days to make sure the cycle is complete BEFORE adding any inverts and coral. The cycle may be done in a week, or it may be six weeks. It mainly depends on how cured the liverock is. Some LFS sell...

Nano 24 tank newbie. How do you turn off the lights??

A yellow tang requires at least a 75g tank. There are no tangs or angels that will do well in a 24g tank. Period. You should be very careful about adding crabs to your tank. Most crabs aren't reef-safe, and most will kill snails, and many will kill fish. Reddish-pink isn't an id. If you...

Nano 24 tank newbie. How do you turn off the lights??

Here's a solid rule about the LFSs. Their job is to sell you stuff, not give you advice. Get that through your head now. You have to go into every LFS thinking that they're all a bunch of drooling idiots that are gonna try to rip you off. Really. It's YOUR responsibility to do the research...

short question of a absolute newbie

That's really a matter of personal preference. I LIKE setting my own tanks up from scratch, planning the filtration, lighting, livestock, etc... If you buy a system that's already setup you don't really get to do that. You can always trade or sell the stuff in the tank if you don't like some...

    Help me choose my Anemone...

It could be a natural color morph. BTAs come in a morph that's nearly white with flourescent pink or white tips. B

    shroom ID

I don't think it's a ric. It looks too smooth. Possibly discosoma. It's definitely bleached out though. B

    Help me choose my Anemone...

I'd go with the first one. The second could be expelling waste, or just shrunk down. Most of mine do that from time to time. Especially when the lights are off, so they could have taken the pic just after the lights came on...Or the mouth could be gaping, which is a bad sign. B

    Sandra's JBJ 12 Problemo, advice??

One of the great things about GSP when it gets prolific is you can have lots of frags to gift to people, or trade, or sell back to the LFS for credit. B

    pic problem

I use the following freeware programs for editing at work where I can't install photoshop. I listed them in the order of most used/useful to least used/useful. If you download/install one and can't figure out how to do it we can get in nanochat and I can walk you through it. B Faststone...

short question of a absolute newbie

I don't know of any books that have been written specifically about nano tanks. But the normal things apply. Make sure you're doing weekly water changes. Use RO/DI water. Research the requirements of your corals and animals. As for using your existing filter. That really depends on the...

    pistol shrimp

As long as it isn't in your bedroom I'd say go for it. I had one in my 55g in my old apartment, and it was a very cool animal to watch. However it got irritating after the lights went off and it would be 'popping' as I was trying to go to sleep. B

    zebra looking anenome

It probably depends a lot on the species of clown as well. Do you have significantly less rock in the 20? I'm glad to hear that you didn't lose anything besides the tank itself. B

    mushrooms/polyps/zoos

It depends on what kind of zoos, and what kind of mushrooms. Some seem to bother others more than others. I haven't kept yellow polyps so I can't really give you any input about them. I've got zoos and mushrooms and green star polyps all growing right up against one another with no problem...

short question of a absolute newbie

Having a larger tank can sometimes make things a bit easier, but only in a very few specific ways. It is defintely not necessary to have a large tank as well. The only way my 6g work nano has benefitted from my larger system is in stocking with frags from them. Lots of...

    Nano people opions!

He's having a bad day with his plumbing so he's posted looking for help here, and on Marsh, and someone mentioned on RC as well. I can totally understand. I just can't take the time to answer on each board. I'm just about to leave work. It's been a very busy day, I've barely managed to leave...
