Setting up a small Nano Tank

I think I remember reading that one of the 2x18 watt fixtures fit perfectly over the tank. Do you know the overall length of the tank you purchased?

    Cleaning your Nanocube

I use mainly a nimble magnet but also have an old toothbrush and I cut down a foam paintbrush that I also use. I use a peice of 1/2" CPVC pipe that I cut down to a little less than a foot long and have the foam brush (cut down to about 3/4" long) mounted in one end and the toothbrush fits...

    Tank recommendations

Actually if you check out the link ( http://nanocustoms.com/ ) you will find that they sell several different tanks including Finnex, CPR, and the Aquapods as well as the JBJs both stock and modded. Decide what types of corals you want to keep and they will help detirmine the lighting needed...

    djconn's 6 gal nanocube

I think that sand will make a neat little difference between all of the other tanks, it just has a different look to it. I thought about upgrading the lights on my 6 like that, Chris said awhile back that they would be releasing a DIY kit for the same upgrade. Have you made any changes to...

Setting up a small Nano Tank

I also say the 25 watt heater would be the best choice. Heaters smaller than 25 watts do not have a thermostat and they basically heat the water up a few degrees whether it needs it or not. Skip

PROBLEMS WITH FUSSION NANO SKIMMER SHOULD YOU BUY IT ???

Skimmers are notorious for making tons of bubble in our tanks when they are new and have not "broken in" yet. IME I have found that a good washing in warm water helps speed the break in cycle up. The problem is traces of oils and other agents that remain on a new skimmer from the manufacturing...

    really dumb question

I have some of the yellow sponge in both my 12 gallon nanocube and my 75 and have had no problems with them, IMO they are also harmless. Skip PS You know there are no really dumb questions.

When is the next chat going to be?

I don't think an open forum type chat would be too bad. This way any topic that someone had questions on could be covered. Other than inverts what else has been covered in previous chats?

Journal for new canopy to house MH retro...

It looks like it is going to do a great job for you. Nice craftsmanship on the canopy and a professional looking job on the reflectors. How are you ging to make the cables adjustable? Or are they going to be fixed at a certain height?

    Wave Maker

I have one of them inm each of my nanocubes and I feel that they have helped reduce any areas without enough flow. The only problem I have had is that I have knocked them off of the return fitting a few times but thats no real problem. I did cut the flange off of one of them the other day with...

    really dumb question

I have seen sponges grow in the overflows of my big tanks, on LR and I have even had a few grow on the glass. Sponges like these are harmless unless they are someplace where they will be exposed to air which will kill them and if there are enough killed, can cause a cycle. I would remove the...

The chat is for ALL members. If you don't feel confident enough to try and answer any questions you can still ask questions or just follow along if you would rather do that. I checked my schedule and I should be able to make it on the 16 th. Skip

    Wave Maker

While it is not really a wavemaker there are alot of us that use a Hydor rotating deflector to better distribute the current in our tanks and help avoid having dead spots. Here is a link to them in case you are not familair with them: http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem. ... ct=HD01401 ...

What the hell is going on ??

You may also want to check you hang on filters closely. I had a skilter 250 (this was a long time back) that started leaking and I couldn't figure out from where, upon real close inspection I found that the plastic body had several stress cracks near the overflow and that was where the water...

    refugium

I haven't set one up on a JBJ but I have seen where a few people have drilled the back of the JBJs, if you were to drilll 2 holes in the back and add bulkheads you could pump water out of the nanocube into a refugium and then let it overflow back into the nano. You would also have to drill the...
